Hi guys) Any suggestions to buy some lens for the beginning for myself...

well i want to buy maybe few lens for myself for tests, home projects, small budjet clips etc....

what anybody thinks about Rokinon cine lens?

or maybe canon L?

actually i like canon 16-35 and 70-200 but many people say the image from this image is too flat....

or maybe it would be interesting to buy any used lens, old ones....

thnx

Hi

When I started off, I allmost bought a set of superspeeds. They were quite cheap back then, and I asked for advice. I really liked the look of them.
And was told they don't "hold up", are "too soft" etc.

Well, stupid as I was, I listened to all that crap.

7 years on, superspeeds are still amongst my favourites, but therebis no way I could afford them...

Moral: if you see something you like and feel you can use well: go for it!

Then eventually you might grow away from them. Doesn't matter.

But go for what you feel you can use!

Did someone say Budjet?

Thnx for advice Gunleik)) you know, i just want to find out which variant is better or sharper in my budjet.... i think i want to spend currently about 4,5-5K$ .... of course i understand your moral but don't want to buy for example 16-35 canon and than understand that for those 2k$ which they cost in my country i could have bought for example tokina 11-16 and rokinon 50 etc....which are same quality but cheaper

for "big" filming we are going to rent good lens but i don't want to buy such expensive ones as CP.2 or ultra primes etc. for myself.... i hope you understand me)

If you want the look of Master Primes, Superspeeds, Ultra Primes etc. but don't have the budget, you should have a look at the Zeiss ZE primes (Canon mount) or ZF (Nikon mount.) They look amazing and give that filmic quality everyone loves. They are the opposite of flat, they are rich, "glassy" and flare beautifully.

While there are some lenses that bring out more contrasty images then others, there is no such a thing as Flat any more, as no images or footage is ever, or almost never, sent to Distribution or Print, without any Post work, were anything , almost anything, can be added, Contrast included, so don't worry yourself too much about this aspect.

While I surely qualify as a perfectionist in Glass, and have come to love the Master Primes and the new Leica Cine Primes, for their insane qualities, I also stand strongly behind Still glass, and while on this the Leica S series of MF Still Glass holds in as my absolute favor, Canon L glass is what I have used most intensively for years, and if your budget or even your needs requires you to go for Canon L glass then go for it without any second tough, and while it will not give you the super sharp images when projected at 4K, it will surely give you plenty of great footage to show off any were.

Each type of lenses give you their advantages and disadvantages, at the end choose accordingly to your budget, and all lenses will give you great images, even if some better then others, also don't worry too much about anything really, as 90% of the Viewers will not see what we see, they will not see Artifacts as they have no clue what this are, and they don't look for them, they just look at your footage... Happy Shooting... ;)

PS: Current best zooms in the Canon "L" series are the EF 24-70mm f2.8L II and the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS.

What are you thoughts on old Nikon NIkkors? picked up a few at keh, and they've been wonderful save color aberration when in very bright situations and also a diffused (or soft) look to it. Just like to know what your opinions are.

You're in Russia, right? I would be looking at old Soviet era lenses if I were you. LOMO, EKRAN, etc. I have a set of converted PL mount LOMOs and love them to death. The price for these lenses has gone up quite a bit, but since you're a local I'm sure you can get a good deal.

It all really depends on the look you are after...
