Hello,

Please help.

I bought a new battle tested red one in december. I finally tried to hook it up to a 320GB red drive that I have used on another red one, where it works, however on the new BT i formatted the drive, then it didn't detect it at all. I restarted it several times, played with the cable, adjusted project settings to match the older red one...etc and it just doesn't show up. Just a big X next to it Media at the back and a "no media" message. Also the red started going crazy, freezing and initialising again on some of the attempts.

Also, I tried the drive again on the other red one and it worked! It recorded and it was fine on a older red.

Would there be any reason why the BT won't see the drive at all after it formatted it?

Any help would be appreciated
Thank you :)

format via Redone or PC/Mac?

So, you've only just tried to use the BT Red One? Or it's been fine with other drives, and Compact Flash/SSD, and it's just this one Red Drive giving problems?

If your BT Red One has not been turned on from when you bought it until just now, try other media like another Red Drive, a Red CF card, or a Red SSD. Also swap the Red Drive cable. Same problem or OK? If the same problem get in touch with Red ASAP as your warranty is just expiring!!!

If swapping the cable fixes it, then label that cable as faulty and get a new one (unlikely as it seems to work on the other Red One OK, but you didn't say if you used the same cable on both cameras).

If it's OK with other media, then try doing a FAT32 format on a PC/Mac. Then attach it to the BT Red One, where you should get a message that the drive is Unformatted. Then reformat on the BT Red One - hopefully that will cure the problem.

Awesome, thank you. I'll give that a try and keep you posted :) thanks again

Hey Eric, thanks for your help.

I formatted the drive and it now shows "unformatted" in the media. The format when fine the BT RED can see the drive now. However it still bugs out when I record and play back.

During playback it reads "SATA_TRANS_FAULT"

Also, the media serial is CP-5273_XXXXXXXX_X_F.

Any ideas? Thank you

Have you tried a different Red Drive cable?

Does the camera record to another media like Compact Flash or SSD RedMag OK?

Does the camera record to another Red Drive OK?

Actually just remembered the Xs in your media serial number indicate the Red Drive has an outdated firmware which can result in "SATA_TRANS_FAULT" errors, which Red strongly advise you bring in for a free drive firmware update.

With this outdated firmware you can actually often record OK and the footage is fine on a computer, but it won't playback on the camera.

However, you should also try swapping your cable, as that can also cause SATA transfer faults. And if you bring it into Red for the firmware, bring all your other Red Drives and Red Drive cables to check they all work fine.

By the way what firmware version was the older Red One and your newer BT Red MX running?

Hey thanks. The firmware was 31.6.16 on the new BT, not sure on the old but I know it hasn't been updated for about a year. I tried another drive + cable that worked on the older red and the same problem. Also the media serial had all these XXXX all over it aswell. Tech support at Red told me it should be a firmware on the drive problem and to send it back to them for a free firmware upgrade and that should fix them problem - I got the drive second hand online so must be a problem with the 31.6.16 using older drives. I will be testing the SSD card on the camera today when I get one (don't own any myself) just incase. Will post back results.

Thank you :)

Ok. Turns out the SSD cards work and the issue is solely with the firmware on the hard drives working with the latest firmware on the BT RED ONE. So relieved it's not the red given the warranty has expired! I will still have to send it to Red's LA office to get the firmware installed onto the drive though. The giveaway was the XXX's in the Media Serial under SYSTEM-PROJECT-STATUS-VIEW. Thanks heaps for your help! Really appreciate it :)
