Hey Redusers,

I'll be showing my follow focus prototype at the Red User event on Wednesday. Keep in mind it's still very rough in terms of execution. Many issues to resolve but I wanted people to get a feel for the build quality we are shooting for. I will take pre-orders on Wednesday with a deposit via paypal for those interested in taking the plunge with me. We expect to ship 25 units in May followed by volume in June.

BSRT Follow Focus

-15mm and 19mm rod support; snap-on snap-off
-All aluminum contruction
-Durable anodize finish (ask me about custom colors (Let's make a blue one!)
-Accepts standard Arri accessories like whip, crank
-Accepts standard Arri marking discs (flat and beveled)
-Built like a brick shithouse
-Down for whatever

Pricing TBD but making every effort to keep things under $3k.

Hi Clayton!
Great news and gears, may I know how much for he Follow Focus? How can I order from Hong Kong?

I will announce final pricing in 2 weeks and let people who make deposits decide if they still want to stay in the game. I promise it will not be above $2999. It will also include a 19mm (100mm spacing) snap-on bracket. I am hoping to include a whip and a crank at that cost as well.

We are going to make design changes after testing the prototype on all the new lens systems at NAB and soliciting feedback from several 600 ACs here in NYC.

I require a $350 deposit (refundable at any time) from all initial reservations because I'm no billionaire.

email me on ceharper {a} mac.com and I'll send you a paypal invoice to reserve a place in line.

Can it rotate both ways, I mean can you choose?

Emmanuel

We are debating about including a reversing gear. I need to analyze how this contributes to the cost but it's still on the table.

I'm guessing it is, but is the dummy-side removable? Also, will there be a 15mm studio bracket, or just 15mm mini?

Go with reversing gears, please! If you do, I know of a home for two! I see a market for a reversing gear now, and even more of a market for a ff with a reversing gear in the near future with more cameras on the market...

Both knobs come off. I will make a 15 studio bracket if we can get enough orders for that. I am also trying to make the part compatible with some of the other Arri brackets from FF5 but those damn registration pins get in the way. :embarassed:

I'm definitely interested. The reversing gear is a must for me.

can the dummy side extend out further?

its really short and I can see it getting in the way of a studio mattebox (like mb20 or 28)
especially if your using short lenses like the zeiss zf 50mm

Totally. There is an extender for exactly that situation.

Keep in mind that we will build another full prototype in the next couple weeks that incorporates as many of the requests as we can accommodate.

Our goal is to make the best FF for only half a fortune instead of a full one. :patriot:

One of the most loved ad desired manual FF here is Arri FF4
and actually it's easy to find it new for less than $2600

Base unit for (converted from pounds) 2558 USD.

Actually until a few weeks ago the price was something like 200 Pounds less but I guess they got too many orders or Arri complained it was too cheap. And filmtools.com lowered their price so now the difference is only 200 USD. That's the base unit with left hand wheel only. Price for unit with 19mm support, right hand focus wheel, right hand extension, 2 gears, whip, focus lever is something like 4500 USD.

So can we expect the BSRT follow focus with all those accessories to be 2250 USD? :wink5:
