Hi forum.

Someone is selling a broken Red Epic-M Mysterium, cheap. Problem is that the sensor is damaged and has a line across the picture. How much does red charge to replace the sensor?

First of all no such thing exists so I would be careful. all Epics are MX sensor only R1 was M

What Jacek said. But if it turns out this is just a typo, and it's legit... and assuming nothing else is wrong... it will cost about $11K and a bit of a wait to transfer ownership to you and get the sensor replaced with a Dragon. And do note this: you will not be able to get the camera serviced unless you transfer the ownership.

Epic-M IS an MX, not an M

Epic-M IS an MX, not an M

EPic M means Machined... handbuilt.. higher price... available without waiting list.
My guess on a repair is in the ballpark of $6500... absolutely would not pay for until RED HQ has the camera in hand, and quotes you the repair price.

Just buy it as cheap as you can and upgrade to dragon. ;)

I believe you would need to get the camera repaired before you would be able to upgrade the camera to an Epic Dragon. Probably not worth it.

Best,

Yeah, RED has a somewhat inexplicable policy in that your Sensor has to be free of defects before they rip it out and throw it in the garbage. :P Feels a bit like treating someone for cancer on Death Row.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Ok, here's the actual post. Please see the photos and tell me if something is wrong? It does say Epic-M Mysterium X....A few people I know have went to see it and it is legit...

They guy got it from an auction an just wanted to make some bucks.

If you want to convert the currency, it's in ZAR. So google 40 000 ZAR to USD....yeahh....!!

I'm sure someone from Red has said that if your sensor is damaged, you can just upgrade to Dragon
Rather than pay for an MX sensor to be fixed, then entirely replaced

Worth asking Red about it when you enquire about the S/N

Let me get this straight. They bought an Epic... at an auction... with only one battery, and no charger... and the QR plate still attached.

If you owned an epic you would have more than one REDVolt... and if you only had one redvolt you would sell the charger with it. If you had more than one redvolt and a charger then you wouldn't sell any of your REDVolts with a broken camera. The sale makes no sense except that there was a REDVolt in the side handle when someone stole the epic.

I can't see a reason for someone to sell a broken epic with all of the accessories on the cheap. It's super easy to parcel out side-handles etc. If my Epic body was borked I might sell it for the price it costs to get it repaired... but I wouldn't include all of the AKS I need for a new body.

It looks well used and abused... The serial number is openly visible, so finding out if it's stolen should be easy. The lack of charger and only one battery doesn't throw up any red flags for me - any number of scenarios that would account for that: it could have been a 'B', 'C', or crash cam and they kept all of the extras for the rest of their camera packages. Or the previous owner could have been a complete train wreck.

Any way calling RED directly to see what the way forward is; should be your next / first move.

From the add said:
I am not going to tell you how much this unit is worth as I do not want to attract unwanted attention.

Come on, no red flags seriously ?
Don't buy it before Red confirms it's ok.
