Hey all

This is a long shot, but I need to replace a part in my DSMC side handle - the part is the bit that houses the d-pad, thumbwheel and enter button.

If anyone has a DSMC side handle that is broken, damaged or otherwise useless/unsellable, BUT that one particular part is in working order, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands.

RED won't sell me the spare part and I'd like to avoid having to pay the repair fee they're quoting me, if possible.

Thanks all!

How much was the fee?

$275. Which isn't exorbitant but I just wondered if I could do it cheaper if someone has a knackered side handle lying around gathering dust.

Well I paid a lot more than that for my new one. I kind of had to go with that option. One of my waterhousings uses the side handle so I needed something (mine still kind of worked) as sending it away for repair would have left me without the side handle and my camera would be slipping around in my housing with no option to record or playback etc.

If this is an enter button issue all you have to do is blow the shit out of it with an air compressor until the "spring" comes back.
DO NOT pay them the $275. I did (foolishly), and a couple of months later their repaired side handle was f'ed up all over again. i've probably paid $1350 for a side handle enter button that (maybe) was used 25 times. Rediculous.

the side handle, the battery chargers they made (which always have one side break), and the v-mount batteries they've made (without p-taps), are perfect examples why imo one should avoid buying any aks made by red.

these are extramely high-priced items which 1. will be replaced by RED with a new design/camera in 16 months and 2. just plain ole don't work

ARRI parts work forever and remain in use forever.

Why should we all keep falling for this paradigm? I'm not made out of money!

Hope this helps!

Really? You fond it was just crap in the button causing the lack of spring?
My enter button and a couple of the abcd buttons were just floppy and you have to push them on a funky angle/pressure to get them to work. Felt like the spring had fallen apart or something. Maybe ill try the blower on my old one...
