Hello - We dropped our 9 inch redmote and cracked the lcd screen. Red replied that they don't support that monitor any longer and offered a trade in for the 7 inch for 1200 extra. I loved the 9 ich screen size and would prefer to get this fixed. The monitor still powers on but the touch response is glitchy.

Also, is the 7 inch a significantt upgrade in viewing quality?

Thanks!

I tried to get mine fixed after shattering the screen and though RED would do it, they quoted me right around $3K which was only a hundred bucks less than buying a new one. (I forget the exact numbers, but you get the idea). I tried some other non-red related companies and even sent it in and they all refused to work on it. It's still sitting in our gear room. It works perfectly, it just looks like hell.

The 7" is fantastic. It's an upgrade in resolution, contrast ratio, overall brightness, and IMHO I like how the new monitors don't scream "RED PRO 5.0/9.0" on the back anymore.

The 9" is 1280x724 compared to the 7" at 1920x1136. Not only do you have higher resolution, you have it in a slightly more compact screen, which results in outstanding pixel density. 326ppi to be exact.

I'd say go for it. What does everyone else think?

The 7" is an incredible monitor.

if you can "DIY" I'm confident you could replace the screen panel itself if you take it out of the enclosure.

I've done several MacBook Pro screens for people before but not looking to make that a lifestyle. Panels sourced from the OEM are usually relatively cheap, so if you can figure out the panel model number or a perfect analog of it, you should be able to source one - maybe as easily as on eBay.

Find a local place that does laptop screen replacement and take it there if you aren't up for DIY. Just know there's a chance they might not be able to fix it, but if it powers up and all there's at least something of a chance for you.

I don't want to sound like a Fanboy, but Reds upgrade to the 7" is fantastic customer service..........

Was I just unlucky but the two 7 inch monitors I've seen both had these crazy little faint vertical lines all through it when viewed under bright light.. I found it distracting and unusable to the point where I had it returned.. I've heard a bunch of others say the same however the majority don't seem to notice it?? Maybe you guys are all in a studio and don't notice it? Or maybe they don't all do it? All I know is I'd love to get another 7 inch but it's too risky. Look closely at the screen, very close... Well maybe you shouldn't actually cause once you see them you can't stop looking at them :)
