  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Brite-View AirsyncHD - a Low Cost Wireless HD system - Epic and Scarlet Compatible

wow...
Nice

Thanks for sharing...We are still investigating wireless trans for internet streaming...we like alot of the airsyncHD feature sets (and the power supply)

Hey Dan. I'm a little confused about the receiver you are holding in those videos. It looks pretty unwieldy compared to the OptiTek unit that you are clearly referring to. How can you practically use your unit in the way that the OptiTek one is being shown in this video?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JnOnT7azYc
And if what you're saying about the OptiTek is true, why wouldn't I just buy the Asus WiCast over yours?

So OptiTek is basically selling a transmitter and receiver package for $6-700 USD (as mentioned in the video) that is normally sold for around $200? Mind you with a custom bracket and cable. The WiCast is (according to spec) said to have around 33 feet range so it seems pretty clear that it has been modified in some way if it's supposed to work up to 100 feet.

Looks like its almost time for an independent comparison "shootout" style.

Teradek
AirsyncHD
Asus WiCast ew2000
OptiTek WiCast solution

+1 on this idea.

As a potential customer I just want the straight info.

..and hang in there Dan, I like your level of determination.

I think I would drop the Teradek from that list as it is an entirely different animal (an on the fly h.264 encoder) that is not intended for focus pullers (who need the less than 1ms latency that Dan is talking about).

Or at least point out that there would be one orange on a list with 3 apples (Dan of course does point this out :).

Regards,
Paul

Definitely.

I'm sure Teradek would probably want to be included to show off all the extra features. Also some might decide they don't need those extra features after seeing the results and the total price comparison. The chart posted by Nicol Verheem was actually very helpful.

Hi Dan. I'm interested in getting an HD trans/rcvr combo. I emailed Jacek with off list questions. No real answers. I have come to believe that both these devices are basically stock. If Jacek was spending 20K on approval or even significant development money on the Asus box modifying it or the antennae, then I'd think he'd be trumpeting his improvements. In both cases what we are getting from you guys is a stock box with some brackets and a batt pack/charger. A comparison of prices puts your setup just over $400 and Jacek at about $650 without monitor. He does seem to have a pretty good package with the daylight viewable? monitor included. I've done a bit of a web search using: Brite-View Air syncHD versus Asus Wicast EW2000 test comparison and found just about nothing. The Bright view is newer but who knows which is better for our uses as a directors viewer or focus pullers monitor. It looks like it wouldn't take much cooperation to test the two against each other if anyone has both units available to them?

It would be nice if the bracketry included ways to connect common wireless focus transmitters, monitors, etc. and not just tie the battery to the receiver unit. Also what about power from the camera do both of you offer similiar options there?

One question for you Dan, Jacek says the Asus is a set of one receiver and one transmitter. Is it possible with the Brightview to transmit to two receivers at once?

As useful as the transcoding/streaming is, doesn't the Teradek introduce significant latency though?

Paul, I would concur...I think our investigation brought us to a similar conclusion. Not better or worse, just different for different situations and budgets.

Dan, for the internet streaming piece, we are liking the Airsync price point, but are still hoping for a bit longer range. The benchmark for us is being able to get more sporting events in the line up (think golf or football sideline) so we have arbitrarily set a 100yds (300ft) as a good "working range".

To me the "shootout" would need to explore the prioritized attributes of the situation. Ie. If you want price choose X, if you want minimal latency, choose Y, if you want etc choose Z.
