Guys,
Maybe I can give you a little perspective on this ... since Ketch and I have been in discussions about this before the announcement in this thread.
The week before NAB, I'm planning a shoot in Hollywood, where we are going to be creating videos for an online information product -- the core of which is Playmates giving men dating/relationship advice (that's all I can say about it now).
We have some incredibly beautiful talented women signing contracts with us and are going to do a full production, renting a set, gear, bringing my own Red One, and even hiring a full Reduser DP for the week to make sure it goes perfect, and also act as DIT after the shoot.
The deal I worked out with Ketch, time permitting, is this:
- He is not responsible for the core/bulk of the shooting; it's too much to ask (since we need to shoot at least 20 x 10-15 videos in 3-5 days) and we will be prepared ...
- He can shoot anything he wants for his reel or anything, or help with any part of the project he wants
- Whatever he wants to shoot or help us with, he directs and is control of the footage (he may choose to give footage to us, or not, his choice)
- He can take stills/motion of any of the women for his reel/site/portfolio (though I hope we can keep some of them for our own promotional purposes!)
- We will cover expenses for our entire crew, rentals, food, etc
- We benefit from having him there, his expertise, his gear, and also just seeing the Epic-M in action
- We will most likely (perhaps I need to check with Ketch, Jim/Red) have a small party one of the shooting days so that some fellow Redusers can come network, see the gear and also meet some awesome women
Anyway, as you can see, this event fits all the criteria that Ketch mentioned -- and it gives him the chance to build some awesome stuff for both his motion reel, as well as still portfolio. It's really win-win.
Hopefully, this will give people a sense of what kind of events would meet the criteria and whether you should contact him about setting something up.
Also, if you are in the LA area, please send an email to tonyflo <at> gmail [dot] com and let me know you're interested in getting together. The days are looking like they will be April 4th, 5th and 6th for our shoot ... but not sure which day (or days) Ketch will be there yet. So if you're interested in meeting up, please do give me a sense of which day you'd like the get-together to be so we can choose the best day for everyone.
