Two little boxes that would make my life easier:

1) The Swapper: Plugs into the EVC/LCD port of the brain, has two outputs for the LCD and EVF and one button. The button toggles between the LCD and EVF. Ability to use EVF and LCD without having to unplug/reboot.

2) The Drudge: Same form factor as the RED station; has two inputs and three outputs. Once a SSD is connected to an input and at least one HDD/SSD to the output, it starts copying with a checksum. Green LED flashes on each port during transfer. Lights green when everything is copied and checked. Make backups in the field without the need for a laptop.

Great idea on both of those.

Add 1 IO module which is a radio mic reciever caddy. You drop in to it a Lectro or Audio limited reciever pair, self powers from camera. Retrun link to Sound recordist. Also has XLR IO.

... or simply an SSD module with both LCD and EVF outs for simultanious use. I have seen something like that on another camera, really made the waves!

YEAH!!!!!! What a great idea! +5000

+1 on both

Have been looking for something like #2) for quite some time. For DSLR work there's stuff like this :

Though the screen is not really necessary.

It would be great to just have a RED field station with 2 or 3 slots. 1 to fit the REDmag and 1 or 2 for 2.5" standard drives. But then: please, NO cables! :) having all this in one box would just add so much more stability / security while backing up!

This is so obvious I can't imagine they are not already experimenting on the idea of creating the add-on for the RED station system.

Great idea on both items.

Now, get a petition going :)

hope I don't get in trouble for this ;)

You know you make good products when your users make photo-realistic mock-ups of dream accessories . . .

But oh man, the DIT in me wants #2 so badly. In a perfect world, in my opinion, it'd have an ethernet jack out, and by plugging in to a laptop or desktop, then punching in an IP address into a web browser, come up with a user interface. Would show a progress bar, and offer a few tools (Re-try errors, changing Checksum type, running RED Undead to recover corrupted or formatted media). An interface like this would provide much greater information and interactivity compared to a few LEDs on the front of the device, and would also be useable on any operating system.

Of course, probably the obvious alternative, would be to build the interface into RedCine-X. Probably much simpler than building a tiny web-server into the station. Either way, you'd have a fully functional self-contained portable device, and get more options by plugging the device into a computer.

Which is practical even out in the woods. "Hmm, the error light is on. Ok, I'll plug it into my Laptop, figure out the issue, then disconnect my Laptop and just use the portable station alone now that I have it reconfigured."

The stacked Red Stations in Patricks pic seem very close to what you are proposing.

Obviously a unit that can operate without a computer attached would be great, but in terms of form factor I think RED already has that pretty well covered with much greater flexibility to boot.

Cheers - #19

The Lemo port is actually on the SSD module so it would be cool if RED could come out with V2 with an extra Lemo port and you could just use one of the custom buttons to switch. I'd buy that module.

After making the mock up, I'd say that the modular version would definitely be better. Just watch out for the cables in the field. :)

Or even better: the ability to feed both at the same time...
