At least it's finally a delivery of an 8K M43 camera! It's not for me though at that price, a strong $1,800-2,300 option maybe but with the Fuji X-H2 out there with S35 8K and RAW 8K output, it's not ideal for cinematic shoppers. Plus, Blackmagic could surprise with their own Pocket 8K or even Pocket 12K in a few months so it's definitely late to the game. People in some comments around the web are balking at 11 stops of dynamic range but that's still a lot nicer than cameras used to be so if they can't make 11 stops look good then what would it do to have more? Add a speed booster and RAW output and this could be a nice workable M43 option but as a 10-bit only device, I'm not sure where it fits.
Although, to be honest, back when I saw the Sharp 8K prototype, I was really surprised how good the 8K video looked and I noticed that it started to lose that M43 "video look" and even began to not look like M43 video at all! This is why I want to see Sony, in particular, continue on with their camcorder sensor developments and bring out 8K camcorders and travel cameras like the RX100 and RX10 series as even with 4K, the current line of camcorders are above and beyond the video camcorders of old and that resolution difference must be blurring the line between formats so if they can just get it right we may see a renewed interest in sub-S35/FF cameras.
The footage looks really nice. Might help to clean the sensor before the test.
Yeah, maybe. I have not space here to comment. I have reached out to the company to see if they would send a unit here to Norway for testing. I am not looking to buy one, but to play with one to see how it works is always of curiosity.
