  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Boom Pole for camera? Fishpole? Stabilized head? for iconix or similar?

Shooting a spot on RED, but have a need to shoot a couple of inserts on iconix or similar small camera. Does anyone know of a boom pole type of rig that an iconix can go on? Even better would be some sort of stabilized head that could maintain a horizon as the pole was swung around. Any thoughts, or does anyone have experience with something similiar? Other solutions? Trying to quickly follow a trained bird around a room. POV look is fine. Did anyone see anything like this at NAB? I thought I saw something like this a few years ago.

Getting closer,

Interesting, but it looks fixed. I need this to be handheld.

I think I saw what I am looking for at NAB a few years ago. I guy was walking around with it on the floor demo'ing it. Does anyone remember something similar.

All input is appreciated.

You can use a polecam handheld if the pole is short enough that you don't need heaps of counterweight. Ocean sports coverage uses iconix rigs on polecams handheld all the time.

EDIT: it appears they use a harness similar to a steadicam vest.

These are all very complicated solutions, I use a small pan tilt head on a Carbon Monopod with any small camera. Run any cables needed down the pod with gaffers tape.

We use a special attachment that screws on to normal painters pole and allows you to attach a male 1/4 20 screw. I got it from these guys: http://www.airsealand.com Then you can build a rig to hold the camera with parts from the Ultralight Control Systems we got at Film Tools http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-b...light&catalog=cinemasupplies&go.x=20&go.y=17)

Not a lot of control, but it works great in certain situations. We use the rig to record alligators on our show Gator 911.
