Did a quick search and saw this brief thread
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?59539-Boardwalk-Empire-on-HBO
but don't think anyone has discussed the incredible cinematography on Boardwalk in any detail.
What are your favorite episodes-scenes-shots?
Would prefer that comments are kept to season 1 but doesn't really matter.
A few episodes(I've only scene season 1) from the first season really stood out for me and on a hunch checked out IMDB. Sure enough it was the same DOP on all of them, Jonathan Freeman II who has also done a few episodes of Game of Thrones
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0293456/filmoseries#tt0979432
Incredible use of natural lighting(especially backlit shots, inventive camera angles, restrained handheld use, if you haven't seen any of these yet you are in for a treat.
The only problem with Boardwalk from a visual point of view is I can't watch 'regular' tv anymore! Of course most tv series don't get the same budget!
I could list many, many actual shots, but 2 that spring to mind are the backlit shot Nucky (Steve Buscemi) on the boardwalk in episode 2, The Ivory Tower and the opening dolly out rotation shot from Paris Green, episode 11
And can anyone tell me why you must click 3 links deep on IMDB to find the DOP? Just plain wrong! Should be given equal billing right next to director and writer!
