Hey guys,

Got asked by a BMW dealership here in South Africa if I wouldn't mind shooting them something for their new i3 and i8 cars. I ended up doing an educational video on the i3 and then BMW only granted me 3 hours with the i8, thus I decided to shoot something based upon the heritage of the 8 series and where the i8's roots began.

For those that do not know, BMW began making engines for aircraft before motor vehicles, hence the setting of an air force base.

Anyway, have a look and critique is welcome as always.

Shot on Scarlet Dragon @5k with Canon glass.

4k available.

Love it! what equipment did you use for the crabs?

My only critique would be that the grade isn't synonymous with BMW's adverts as they are quite stark, however; the grade is okay for the throwback/vintage theme you're going for, just blows out the cars a bit

I have two critiques to add.

1) I don't think the grade is flattering to the brand, just as James said above. I think you can give it the vintage look but use a magic window to just reduce that look a bit on the cars themselves.

2) I think you jumped too far into the future too quickly with the heritage. I would have put at least one 2k+ 8 series in there because the i8 is so drastically futuristic.

Looks great! Not sure what equipment you had but here are my thoughts on the next film:)

Add some vertical movement ... there is a lot of horizontal movement which is great, but I think that some vertical movement using a jib, MoVI or Drone would really add some dynamics to the shot.

That air force base is pretty sick and man, I would love to see more of that plane integrated into the shots. Maybe the cars moved closer or up under the wing.

I'm not personally a huge fan of the grade ... I think a Tetrachrome or Kodak 200 look with some minor grain would be sweet. Also, grab some light hits from Lens Distortions to add some dimension.

Overall great spot dude ... hope to see more soon! :)

Thank you Gentlemen. Your input is valuable and will take note.

Unfortunately BMW did not make any 8 series bmw's after the e31 840ci in the 90's... so there is a massive jump between the last 8 series and the new i8. What we could have done is bring in a 6 series from 2006 or something. hmmm. I guess the idea was to show the massive leap in technology for BMW.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at doing an update on that grade.

Appreciate all the input.

Hey Levi. Just me, a small Slide and Glide that couldnt handle the weight of the camera (cheap thing) and my trusty Dragon.

I only wish I had more time with the car and more gear and some grips. I usually direct, so this was a fun experience for me to just wing it solo.

Again, thank you all greatly for the input. Keep the critique coming in.

My bad. The whole time we were discussing the 8 Series, I was saying 8, reading 8, but I completely forgot that the top end model in recent years was the 7.
