I need to author some blu ray discs using a Mac. Can anybody recommend the best to better Blu Ray authoring programs? I used to use DVD Studio Pro for standard DVD's but Apple axed it.

Any suggestions are appreciated

Many Thanks!!!!

Adobe Encore. Even if you download Encore with a Creative Cloud subscription, I think the last active version was CS 6. If its a one off situation, is DVD Studio Pro no viable, given that you've had some authoring experience with it?

You can do basic blu-ray out of FCPX. Not really much authoring of an interface, though.

True, not a real authoring environment, basically limited to just packaging the video portion without any bell or whistles. If the poster wants to author with some level of control with a menu system, DVD Studio or Encore or iDVD will be the way to go. Encore was really buggy on PC and Mac. So again, not many choices on the mac. And if its a one off situation, doesnt sound practical to learn another software package.

Sorry Joe, you've drifted to far in the time continuum. :)

I always wondered how difficult it would be to write some blu-ray software and put it on the app store for a few hundred, I've got no programming knowledge so I never really got around to trying.
I'd assume there would be a hefty licensing fee as well.

I think the Sony royalty was reason that Apple never adopted Blu Ray as a standard in the hardware. Not sure if that was applicatable to authoring software.

But beyond Blu Ray authoring. There has to be a need for authoring in general, just never thought about where the market is right now.

Earlier this year at CES 2015, Panasonic announced a 4K UHD Blu ray player. So authoring optical disk may some resurrection. The professional authoring software Senarist, disappeared, but has returned. So who knows where optical and 4K net out in the marketplace again.
