I just watched the film “Blood Into Wine”. It’s a fun informative doc about (TOOL front man) Maynard’s vineyard, but there is also more about him and wine in general in it than I would have thought. Even if it deifies him a bit in places. A decent dose of humor, hippy love power, history, and small town and wine politics rounds the film out.

I was struck by how beautifully shot it was. And how pristine the images were on my HD Plasma compared to other docs I’ve viewed recently. Then sure enough, at the end of the credits we see a nice big RED Digital Cinema logo. I was even thinking to myself while watching it “man this looks so clean, yet film like, I wonder if it’s RED?” I think that is a bit of a testament to what RED is doing, they aren’t just matching film but they’ve created a technology that can also impart its own definite look. And I for one like that look and think it stands out, though it doesn’t have to either.

I mean, I’ve never thought “Huh, wonder if this film was shot on *name your film stock here*?” before, but I have wondered if movies that look “RED” to me were shot on RED. But that’s just me. I’m sure others have thought about what stocks were used on films.

I also couldn’t help but draw some comparisons in my own mind after the fact of the maverick wine makers of Arizona to the RED company.

Anyway, I’m not affiliated with the film, but since my search here didn’t turn much up about it… I thought it deserved a little recognition on the board so others who might find it as interesting and beautiful as I did might be encouraged to check it out.

Take care all-

I just finished watching this documentary now. I was compeltly blown away! "Blood Into Wine" is an interesting and creative documentary with not only lots to learn about wine making, but the creative and symbolic aspects of its development.

If your a fan of the band Tool, its a breath of freash air to see more into the life of Maynard James Keenan, and whats hes all about.
