Shot some stuff in 4k 16:9 today, cf rc28. The footage when loaded in redcine is black, the proxy icons in finder as well. But the proxies play just fine in quicktime. havent tried to do a quick transcode in redrushes yet but will do it tommorow and see what happens.

Redrushes will transode the material, but redcine will export black frames. I find this to be a serious bug since redcine is a very crucial part of the post process.

Some new info...
It happened again today, same settings but shot some 2k 100fps as well. When imported in redcine the image is black. If I slightly change contrast, brightness or any other setting(and then return it to its original value), the image magically appears. If I press reset all, it goes black again.

Since it's been 2 days without an answer I'll be calling RED today. It's a very serious bug that turns postproduction into a nightmare.

Did you change the look settings in camera ?
Try resetting them in the camera menus (there is a reset function somewhere in the look menu).
I've seen something similar when I tried changing some settings in the look menu (Contrast, lighness, saturation, curves) in the camera. Seems to be a bug, the camera metadata isn't interpreted well by Redcine / RA / QT.
You can also reset to the default setting in redcine if you hold down the "cmd" key while clicking on the reset button in the redcine color menu (or the "defaults" button in RA).

I had the same problem on an urgent job last night and discovered a way to work around it. Just go to the color menu in Redcine and click on the exposure bar to get the "number entering" menu and then click on the "R" button. This brought back the colors for me. Subsequently you can copy and paste the setting to all the clips in one click and they all look good again.

Yeah, I found the workaround but thats not what I'm after. In 3 days I start shooting a feature film. Imagine having to do this for every card, hd, shot.

Actually reseting the camera was the trick, so thanks for the tip. Whats weird is that before I reset the camera, I shot on a card that already had some non-problematic footage without formatting it before. When imported in redcine, even the old stuff was black...

Lesson of the day: When playing with the in-camera look controls, dont just return them to their preset values, remember to reset the camera to factory presets.
