  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Blackmagic Video Assist is now shipping!

Dirty; so it triggers record, but doesn't have the same filename? Is that something they'll address in firmware?

Also (the reason I came to this thread) can the BM Video Assist record higher frame rates on RED? If memory serves, DSMCs are limited to 60i, but I was hoping with some combo of pulldown removal and/or output setting, the Video Assist could actually record something higher than 30p.

Ddmc doesn't output interlaced and they can output up to 60fps. I asked BM about the naming and they wouldn't comment. The older hyper deck didn't do naming either.

I coulda sworn the reason you couldn't record higher fps out of HDMI/SDI was because the output maxed at 30p and then higher frame rates were in a 60i wrapper (like I thought you could select 60i output independent of resolution)..

So does that mean it's good to go for 60p?

I've always understood that you could spit out up to 60P from the RED SDI/HDMI.

From what I understand you have to set the SDI (or HDMI) output from the camera to 60Hz and shoot on camera at 60Fps. I have done that with the Oddyssey and it worked flawlessly. The odyssey recognized the 60fps.

Daniel, do you mean shoot at 60fps *with a timebase of 60fps*, or does 60fps at 24fps timebase still work (being that the monitor signal you record is displayed at 60hz/realtime)?

In either case, that's rad... Now if they can button down the filenames (and add scopes and stuff), that'd be ideal.
