Im thinking of adding the Ultrastudio 4k into my post production hardware setup mainly to run with my 4k tv. Not so much for its capturing capabilities. Im finding very limited reviews and feedback on what people think of it. Anyone using this device and recommend it? Anyone not wanting to use it for any reason? Is there a better hardware out there?

Hard to beat the price. I have a friend who has one and he said it sometimes takes some time to get it to read the camera. Have to turn in on and plug it in in the right order. Impressive performance when it is up and running and once it is, it is solid. I would buy from a place you can return it if you run into trouble.

If you can keep it in a separate room with good sound isolation - AND - the devices you plan to attach to it support BMD's proprietary SDI implementations - then all you have to do is hope the drivers work well with your setup...

I have 2 of them and use them mainly for Resolve and Flame Assist. They work great for me. 4K is no problem if the rest of your computer can keep up. The fan is loud but on my setups they are in a mini rack enclosure on the desk so the sound is muffled a little.

I've found ours a little bit unreliable. Firstly, it offers sketchy performance at 4K - sometimes signal drops for no reason. Second, performance in Ae and Pr slows considerably just by having it connected. Disconnecting allows Ae to RAM preview at twice the speed.

However, it is useful and is a perfect solution for monitoring and capturing whilst being compatible with Resolve.
