is anyone using this card with good results (or bad) with the RED workflow?

I'm on a 2X2.8 GHZ quad-core intel mac. monitoring to a sony luma (hdsdi). might add a large sony flat screen via the HDMI on the decklink card.

any thoughts good or bad on the card. nice feature to have the HDMI for the large client monitor

thanks!

I know Multibridge Pro out of HDMI works great with Sony 10 bit LCD, it works even with 23.98 as 23.98.

my main question and usage will be decklink extreme via hdsdi to the sony 26" luma

an afterthought is the HDMI to a large client monitor....seems nice to have that option with the card

I'd imagine HDMI of DeckLink HD Extreme would work like Multibridge.
Luma 26" should be even more flexible to work with.
I had some experience with the cheapest Luma not working well with 23.98 though. But more expensive models should work.

We have both Aja Kona and Blackmajic Extreeme. it wasnt planned that way but we have both, and both work fine.

Blackmagic has two advantages in HDMI and also if using Blackmagic 10bit uncompressed the means of coding to disk is more efficient. This can make a big difference when using SAN's and multiple streams. Im not sure if the latter point make a huge difference to R3d users.

Generally AJA support seems better and more responsive.

I hear some complaints about Blackmagic support in U.S., but when I write to Australia, I always get the answer back very quickly.

We have both That card as well as a Kona3, some clients prefer one, some the other, we can get identical results (as far as monitoring goes) from both, for layoff and capture the kona seems more precise. Also our Kona is running it's 2nd hd-sdi out thru an AJA FS1 convertor box with pristine results.

As for the blackmagic card, we get beautiful results, we actually use that card for our color grading system/client viewing bay; on which we did all the color grading for our last series which was shot primarily R3d, never had a problem (other than user generated ones) and it's actually on a slightly older machine.

Hope that helps!

I've never had to wait for tech support whenever i've called their direct number. It's always the same guy, so i don't know if it's just one dude in his basement tackling tech support; but they've always been reasonably responsive when getting back to our questions either by phone or e-mail.

Good to hear.
