  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Black Shading To current FPS Failed.

Josh,

Maybe you could point out the good and bad info for people reading.

There is so much User Generated Disinformation on this subject - including this thread. Would love to get an Official RED Black Shading Sticky and be done with it.

@eric
Nice work - now send me to that link that has RED Official engineering style specific information for Black Shading - like in a single process control style document. What has be stated is soft, conversational information that lacks specifics and hard numbers.

There isn't one, but if you follow the links the first two go direct to Red Team recommendations, and the last thread has lots of Red Team contributions, so about as good as you'll get for now. Just ignore all the non Red Team stuff if you like.

Can someone post a screenshot of a camera that has been properly black shaded at max ISO? I just want to check if my results are correct.

We need a whitepages on BLACK SHADING.

I've been reading over the past few days, weeding out the helpful and useful posts. Taking what is useful and it takes time. I don't mind learning this way, nor do others but I do mind wasting my time searching through threads to find the info I am looking for when it can be all accumulated and placed in one source.. I.E. "BLACK SHADING WHITE PAGES" There's what 15,000 of us, not including rental clients. We need this info and there are a lot of bugs still being worked out. That's probably why we haven't seen the whitepages yet.

Keep up the good work RED team and hopefully we'll see a first draft soon.

Here is the post by "TheBied" WTF, real names? :)

Here's an extreme before and after example: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0hS...TQQ/edit?pli=1

The after R3D is representative of the shading you should see if your camera is properly calibrated for it's current conditions.

Note: ISO is set to 12800 to exaggerate the noise in the image.
