Assuming I wish to shoot at 1/50th & 2 stops of HDR sow 1/200th should I black shade at 1/100?

This was less of an issue with MX as if I black shaded at 1/100 both 1/50th & 1/200th showed green.

All thoughts very welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

I did some testing & with black shading done at 1/80 sec I get a green light for a shutter angle from 179 degrees to 45 degrees, so I think that will be the best compromise.

Hey, I personally haven't tested it myself yet but will do the next time I have a RED at my ands and some free time.
But with the new firmware you can do multiple blackshadings, save them as presets and then reload them.
I would assume you do one for each shutter speed and then load those. Keep the temp in mind.
As soon as I have something more reliable I'll post it

Never change anything on my BS settings based on the use of HDRx or the stops used in it... I use the original capture as reference and BS accordingly, the X file of the HDR mode will be closely related to that choosing... And I BS to what ever SS as needed for either Still extraction or Motion capture accordingly.

Unless you are only to use the X track for either Still Frame extraction then I would BS to the calculated SS of the (HDRx) X track based on the number of stops you'll use it on, usually 2-3 as recommended but many times I have gone 4 with great results...

I do 4 calibrations from 1/24th upward skipping every other one. This way I can apply different ones until I find the correct combination. I also map the sensor button to the short cut keys in the main menu so one touch to get to the menu and one touch to apply the calibration. Down to about ten seconds total.

I spoke to the technical guys at Red, & they thought I was on the right track.

How will multiple black shades help if I an shooting 2 exposures at the SAME TIME?

Yes I have 4 as well, however the camera con only work with one at a time when using HDRX

Maybe blackshade at the shutter angle between the two tracks you are recording this way the one you select should still be green for both shutter angles.

If BS effects the shadows more than the highlights, wouldn't it be better to blackshade for the darker exposure?
