Black shading calibration

Just wanting a clarification here, I think sometimes I'm reading information concerning the Epic and assuming it is a general rule for all Red cameras. Example-black shading.

I just came across an AC's blog where he is talking about the black shading protocol for the Epic, compared to his experiences with the R1. So I learned that the Epic has to be calibrated much more than the R1. Is this correct, that the R1 only needs to be calibrated after major firmware upgrades or factory reset? I don't have to black shade for drastic changes in environmental temp. or high speed frame rates?

Turn camera on, wait 45 minutes then black shade. Unless your ambient temp changes hugely yoiu don't need to blackshade again until you change firm ware.

They also recommend a new black shade when you make drastic frame rate changes.
