Updated to 3.0 and doing a new black shade. It says to let the camera come up to temperature. Normally it runs around 50C when rolling, or higher. so I let it get to that temp, and then started the black shade. When the fans kicked on the temp dropped to 42. Should I change the fans to spin less and do the whole thing at a higher temperature?

every firmware upgrade, or before each shoot you should black shade. I would also black shade if doing 300 fps at 2k on epic or 1 fps. massive change in frame rates and shutter speeds you should black shade for.

Straight from Deanan:

My recommendation is to blackshade:
1) upgrading to new firmware
2) big ambient temperature changes
3) long exposure times (longer than ~1/15th sec)
4) very short exposure times (shorter than around ~1/1000th)
5) beginning of a project
6) as often as you feel like

Remember to black shade at default after long/short exposure black shade when your finished.

More convenient/flexible black shading coming later.

That last one, #6, indicates to me that you cannot blackshade too often, only too little.
