I'm attempting to use Redcine for the first time on my PC XP laptop with a mobile Intel 945 graphics card.

Redcine (current version) is very buggy - cursor on again off again buttons jittery etc. And I only see a black screen both in library and playback.

I have the most recent display drivers, direct x (if that makes a difference) and the Quicktime 7.5. Is this version of Quicktime contraindicated?

I have done a complete uninstall and reinstall (including library) or Redcine.

I've been able to find other occasions of black screen within Redcine but none of those solutions seem to fit here.

Any similar experience and/or paths out of this maze would be greatly appreciated.

Wayo,

Thanks and sorry, yes computer specs would help - Not perhaps the fastest of laptops:

Toshiba Satelite A105
Core 2 CPU 1.66GHz
2 MB RAM

Display card:
Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family - current driver
128 MB

The R3D files are all generated under the current build (16 v3.25)
REDCINE is the current release

Thanks for this...

i think your graphics card may not have enough grunt to process the red files.
i had this problem on one of our render farm machines. REDcine loads but plug a file in and it goes black beacuse of the shittty cards in them.

have had any success before on this machine or is this the first run with it?

Makes sense - These were just 2K files and I was hoping 1/4 rez medium might yield something but, no luck.

Maybe I will have more luck come week's end with the upcoming Adobe support. All I really need is to meaningfully preview files and do preliminary grades while in the field.

If not, perhaps it's time for a new laptop.

Many thanks,

Sorry David, but you need a new laptop. Integrated Intel graphics of any kind are awful with OpenGL, and REDCINE is heavily dependent on OpenGL.

Best,

Thanks Luki and wayno. Actually, I've just been looking for the right excuse. This thing is getting old anyway in the way that we have come to consider 1 1/2 year old computers old...

Thanks for the input and the excuse.

1024x768 or 1280x1024?

Is your sceeen 1280x1024 or 1024x768? On my brother's computer 1024x768 would not work, messed up screens, but on 1280x1024 it worked, so plugging in an external monitor and changing the desktop resolution to 1280x1024 might help... You right click on the desktop background to change the resolution, change it back before you turn the computer off so the LCD will work later...
