Black Magic has a bunch of new 4k stuff out. A 4ck Link 4k Extreme, UltraStudio 4K and a 4k playback/record on the HyperDeck Studio Pro.

However it does not say anything of being able to 4k monitoring of RED files. This would be a huge letdown if it is the case.

Im guessing the monitoring would work fine through Resolve.

hopefully it will work with prores 4k/DNX 4k when the edit suites catch up. I often wonder why I have not switched to Premiere. However when I work on back projects I remember quickly. I still have old DV projects I can load into current avids.

Interesting offering

Interesting offering

Kind of disappointed that the 4K formats supported are limited to 3,840 H as 4,096 by 1716 (scope) and 3,996 by 2160 (1:1.85 flat) are key DCI target formats. I understand that the majority of "4K" monitors hitting the market are limited to QFHD 3,840 by 2,160 which the BM card supports so its still a welcome option. Just wish I could see the entire frame without scaling when pulling elements together for a DCP encode. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but especially when compositing VFX with practical photography, I am always concerned about subtle aspect ratio scaling at the final step.

Hopefully as companies like Barco, Christie, Sony, RED and others start shipping 4,096 H projectors aimed at the post industry in quantity, BM will offer a firmware upgrade to support them rather than expecting us to buy a whole new card :-)

Cheers - #19
