  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Nikon Mount Update?

My experience is that it depends on the individual lens. The only lens I used with that problem is the Nikon AF 17-35mm. All my other lenses did not turn while focusing. Even still, I saw no visual shift when using the 17-35mm.

Overall the RED Nikon mount has been just fine.

Interesting... my 17-35 doesn't have any problems with the Red mount... it's rock solid.

I'm following Jacek's progress on his Nikon "pro" mount, which I think will be a well engineered solution (and will support manual iris adjustment on lenses with no manual iris ring). Still, the Birger mount is high on my wish-list... here's hoping for some good news at NAB!

Cheers,
Tim

We started back up with the Nikon program, and will announce a schedule at NAB/REDuser.

Now that the NAB/REDuser event has come and gone, what is the news on delivery of the Birger Nikon Mount? Erik? Birger Nikon Mount devotees who attended the event? Anyone?

"in a month or so" officially began this weekend
:)

here's hopin' we get more news before the 4th of july

:couch:

Taking over the software development on the Impero pushed back the Nikon mount development. We have a major software release due out next week. EF lens library 20A and mac app 1.1.5 are already up on the server. The comparable PC app, the our first Impero update (smoother focus/iris) and non-wireless support are still being wrapped up.

When you see that the Impero backlog is cleared, and the next (after next week) Impero software release is out, would be a good time to demand an update. Right now, with 95% of our customers/reservations as Canon, we need to just get this done.

PL will come before Nikon. It should only be a couple of days of additional delay.

Preliminarily, we expect to ship Nikon mounts in volume by VISION 2009 in Stuttgart, the big trade show for industrial cameras, in November of this year. All reservation holders will be invited to join the Beta program as soon as we have stable hardware and software. I think this will be in early September.

Erik -

Thanks for the update; much appreciated. For the record, there are a LOT of potential Nikon mount customers who are waiting to see shipping product before placing an order (after having watched the Canon experience). I have the sense that you think Nikon lens owners are a niche market for some reason... if you ship a mount before Epic/Scarlet come out, I think you will be very surprised at the number of orders that you will get. If you're later than that, it may be another story. Anyhow, thanks for the update, and we Nikon owners will continue our wait.

Cheers,
Tim

Any update on a Birger Nikon mount? I'd love to buy one!

We have the Impero software finalized, and all reservations for Canon/Impero combos shipped. So, it is time for the promised update on the Nikon, which we have just now been able to get back to in a big way.

Really happy the new iris actuator that we have been working on. This is the one we will be using in production units. I will have a next update during November when we have a full mechanical integration,, and are ready to nail down the schedule a little more tightly.

With a Birger-Nikon-mount ETA of November, it will be too late for me or anyone joining the Red One to Epic-X exchange programm.

Ok, I know. Moving targets. Two of them actually....

Birger-Nikon on Epic? Oh yes, please. Would order now.

Jochen

I know I am just dreaming, but it sure would be nice if RED would just make a proper Nikon and Canon mount for Epic and Scarlet that was intelligent, so we didn't need to go through all this honkey-tonk madness, the hack approach just doesn't seem to be stabilizing.

I am not complaining because I love the fact Erik filled this gap, but his choice to buy out Viewfactor and use their products that have never seemed to work right by themselves just compounds the science experiment foundation.
