  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Nikon Mount Update?

With a Birger-Nikon-mount ETA of November, it will be too late for me or anyone joining the Red One to Epic-X exchange programm.

Ok, I know. Moving targets. Two of them actually....

Birger-Nikon on Epic? Oh yes, please. Would order now.

Jochen

Why would this be too late - Jim already said the cutoff date for ordering would NOT be the announcement date of October 31 so I suspect will be at least another thirty days after that.

Alternatively you could get a Birger EF and use it as a dumb mount with your manual Nikon lenses, buy a Canon lens or two in the meantime and maybe work out some sort of trade-in price on the Nikon mount when it comes out.

Honestly, for most of the normal lenses is there a dimes worth of difference between Canon electronic lenses and the equivalent Nikon electronic lenses?

Doing the ebay rental thing (you buy a used lens on ebay and then sell it when you are done with it and even if that is several months as long as you take care of it you typically lose very little or nothing) is also a practical solution for the interim.

Hello,

So finally, I don't know if Nikon Birger Mount is finished or not?
Does Birger give up the Nikon Mount?

Please answer me, I have searched but I haven't found ...

It appears that the Nikon mount was not developed. Only Canon. There are several dumb mounts for Nikon, however.

Yes but with dumb mount there is not focus and diaphragm electronic control, isnt'it?

We make Nikon mount that locks (stock unmodified Nikon)lenses like PL mount and has built in iris ring to control/ monitor f stop on Nikon electronic lenses.

Focus electronic works too ?

I would like know if Eric Widding has explain why does he stop the developing of Nikon Birger mount ?

No - that would require the lens to communicate with the Red One body which is not possible.

That's incorrect. The birger mount does communicate with the redone body - it provides lens data on the lcd and also start/stop, via the impero controller.

Autofocus is not implemented because that would have to be driven by the camera head, but electronic focus and electronic iris control of the canon EF and EF-S lenses does work and is the whole point of the Birger mount.

Michael is correct. . . sort of. :-) As it happens, at least with our lenses and Birger and RED, the lens data communicated to the LCD is sometimes seriously in error. Most of the time the f/stops are accurate, but the focus distances are typically off by WILD margins (850 feet is a normal readout when we're like 10 feet away!).

Overall, it's a terrific system, and I'm really looking forward to RED instituting their Canon auto-focus system on the Epic-X and Epic-S cameras.
