I got the mount today... with one of the pins pinched.

Erik I strongly recommend your team put more effort into packaging the mount.. its built like a tank.. true... but the pins are exposed.
Either package it properly or add a canon cover when you send them out. I also recommend using laser cut white foams to fit the mount into.

Also, when I tried attaching a lens.. the pinched pin jumped out.

Let me know how i can send this back for repair and return.

Thanks.

Email info at birger dot com for instructions to return the mount for repair. I am sorry that the mount failed. I do not think the pin failure was due to the packaging.

We actually have shipped hundreds of packages in exactly the same manner over the years, saving our customers thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars in shipping charges. This is actually the first complaint we have ever received for our manner of packaging.

They really sent it in a Fedex envelope???

Yeah it was sent in a fedex envelope.

Erik..
I am just curious about one more thing.
I thought you were shipping the mounts with longer cables that go to the end of the red one... i got a small cable that goes to the side.. didn't that strike a shock and fuse some of the first beta red one's? or have i missed something? or didn't catch up to some improvements you have made. Also, I remember you saying that if the power from the back of the red one is used.. all lenses such as sigmas can be powered.. and the side power outlet of the redone is not strong enough to support sigmas and stuff? am I wrong? If I am right, can I pay extra for a longer cable to power my sigma lenses.
Most of my lenses are sigmas... its crucial for me.

Thanks.

I am working on sending the email right away. Thanks for the prompt support.

Take the cable out of the bag... it is longer than you think. :bleh: Okay, so I make fun, because you are about the fifth person to make that comment.... without taking it out of the bag first.

This guy is awesome. i sent him an email... I got a reply with everything before I hit refresh.

Things are changing at Birger... nice.. real nice.

I just opened the cable.. lol.. its long enough to go from one end to the other. Lol. Sweet.

Good then, I'm set, I'm sending only the mount back.. and keeping the rest. I'm also fixing the mount with a canon mount cover.

Hey Akube, I just experienced pin problems today too, if it makes you feel any better.

i'm good.. i sent mine in for repair.. what happened with yours.. did they pop out?

Kind of the opposite... they're stuck in a depressed position and won't pop out to make contact with the lens. I sent Erik an email about it but I don't think he'll see it until Monday.

I guess it's the pins not the packaging. hmmm.. interesting.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by the packaging, but when I started thinking about it I realized that the metal frame of the lens mount is far tougher than any cardboard box packaging, and the bubble wrap kept it safe from casual impacts. If it saves money on shipping then I'd say they should keep shipping it the way it's been going out.

Hopefully the pin issue is only a fluke and not endemic to the mount.

It will be interesting to see what kind of turn-around Birger provides for repairs.
