  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger - EF232LensLibrary19x

The broken links to the old software releases should be fixed by tomorrow.

Hi Erik ... ANY news ? Please ? 'Tomorrow' was a while back and could REALLY do with A version, a prior release to 19 would be good :)
In future could you provide links to the prior versions (with a version history against each) so we can download something ;-)

Sadly I did not keep a local copy :crying: can anybody who has a working version send me a PM and I'll forward you my email address.

Many thanks ...

Sorry David, just checked and thought I had saved a copy onto a firewire drive.

I'd like the new version also.

Best,
Frazier

Thanks for looking Frazier ... like you I was sure I saved a copy :( live and learn eh !

I can't get the mount to recognize a lens. I am communicating with software through bluetooth on my mac.

Anyone? I've tried reinstalling the mount - nothing. Pressing the buttons does nothing.

hi Erik

is it possible that during the collimation process the lens mount is not perfectly on a plane with the sensor? I haven't done a thorough bench test but I get the feeling that the focal plane is ever so slightly 'yawed'. Or that even one side of the image is slightly sharper over all. I'm using a Tokina 11-16.

thanks, Daniel

Seems to me it would be pretty easy to cause this during installation if one bolt got tightened down while the rest were loose. I try to ease each bolt in a little bit at a time to keep the pressure even among them.

I suppose it's possible you have a defective mount. I'd probably loosen and retighten first just to be sure it's not something simple like that.

I'd bet it's the Tokina. I LOVE that lens, but, given its price and construction, that is a likely source of slight focus differences across the film plane.

David/Frazier,
Do you guys need the file BEI Device Interface 1.0.0? Don't know exactly what "version" of the library that came with, but I have a copy saved if you need it...

If you can get your lens mounted on a full frame DSLR (5D or 1Ds) you may notice that the vignetting is not exactly where you would expect it to be (not central) ! Mine certainly is not and perhaps your lens is even worse !

As Stephen Pruitt says ... quality control for the Tokina (at it's price point) is likely to be lacking

Looking for EF232LensLibrary19x.bei

Thanks Chris,

I have the BEI Device interface 1.0.0.

Was looking for the newer Mac version of the EF232LensLibrary19x.bei

Still trying to resolve this - anyone?

I guess you have tired all of this stuff but might worth going through it all again.

What lens are you working with?
Have you tried a different lens?
Try switching the lens from auto to manual.
Have you mapped the lens with the Birger Mount (middle button)
Install a different firmware build.
If you need a different version I can let you have a couple.

Bluetooth connectivity ... (OS X platform)

Bluetooth connectivity ... (OS X platform)

Ok ... so what's the secret ?!

Bluetooth Setup Assistant does not find any devices (R1 powered up with Birger mount; mount controlling lens aperture ok (1/4 stop increments), focus calibrating ok, etc via buttons on mount) and small stub antennae is mounted.

The Birger BEI Device Interface application reports back [No BEI Device Found. Error No16-Resource busy.]. No idea what this really means but if the mount does not appear as a device in the Bluetooth Devices I expect the app to complain.

So, tried 3 different laptops and always the same outcome. How can I determine that the Birger mount Bluetooth is alive & well ? Erik any tips PLEASE ? Anybody else had a similar experience and conclusion is ?

Cheers

Does your mac have bluetooth capabilities? If it does, you'll see the bluetooth symbol in the mac settings. the bluetooth has to pair up and find the birger mount at which time it will prompt you for a code which is found on your birger mount.

I can assure you it has Bluetooth ... (works fine with a variety of other devices, mobile phones, etc).

Anyway, I did eventually get it to work ... but it kept loosing connectivity with the mount. Longest it worked for was 20 minutes (did not dare move the laptop or R1 !) and long enough to do some testing of various lenses to see if there I could detect an image bounce when changing focus direction (I've made the assumption that what I see by testing with a laptop driving the mount will be same as the mount driven by the Imperio ... as and when it ships!).

  • 100/2.8 macro = could not see / measure any image jump
  • 16-35/2.8 Mk2 = could not see / measure any image jump
  • 70-200/2.8 IS = could not see / measure any image jump
  • 24/1.4 = not good at all (would be curious to know if other folk have the same issue or is it just my lens)
  • 16/2.8 = could not test in time ;-(
  • 400/2.8 IS = could not test in time ;-(

My mount is a Mk1 version and I can only assume the Mk2 version that is shipping now (with Imperio?) has a more stable Bluetooth ;-)
The mount itself has been rock solid, button operation has never failed (running 19x library).

PS : still awaiting for THE email from Erik for the upgrade + Imperio ...

I couldn't get it to consistently move the focus throughout its range. I assumed I just needed to do the update which I done. Did you perform the update? Where did you get the update file? It's not that bei file is it?

Erik, any word on the Imperos?

Hello all. I've recently installed the Birger mount and I'm also finding the same issues as you David. Though I've only been using a canon 28-80 ef 1:3.5-5.6. Not the best lens I know, I'm yet to invest.

After installing the mount the lens would work the fstops.(Obviously no focus yet) Then during the collimation everything stopped. No permutation of button pressing would operate the f stops and get it working again. I thought that with an up grade to the latest firmware I may get it going. However my Mac pro cannot find the Birger via blue tooth in any way to go through this process. So from the out side the mount appears to be totally unresponsive, may be even faulty!

So what am I missing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
