  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger - EF232LensLibrary19x

I-data are now on monitors but bluetooth disappeared after connecting the i-pins, same happened to the smile on my face shining there since i received the mount.
Joel, you are right, distance is moving only in remote mode
16-35 LII is working fine (iris and focus remoted with the mbp till bluetooth went dark)
And still the 50 1.2 is not accepted.

PS I'm surprised by the space between the mount and the camera, i'm going to see some spider eggs there if i dont clean it daily.

***LAST EDIT***
Dismounted the mount, all the operations redone from zero. Mount working perfectly, perfectly, perfectly. I dont know what i did wrong before and what i did right now. Now it works.

But i still need the fix for 50 1,2

Ok... got the bluetooth to communicate just fine. Interesting issue however. Did install the latest software... that went like a charm. But, the D number was still locked at 890' or something like that. When I ran the two calibrations FROM the laptop via bluetooth, the readouts for distance for both the camera monitor and the laptop now jive with the lens. Nice. Now I need to put the 70-200 on and see if it will indicate zoom range past 100mm. More info as I go through all my lenses. Thanks for the help all.

Record /stop in Birger GUI

Record /stop in Birger GUI

Maybe this has already been mentioned, and I just haven't seen it...

In the Birger GUI, there are some extra boxes at the bottom... (Miscellaneous)
I've been using the Macbook Pro for control, and it looks slightly different to the PC layout, but not much...

While screwing around I found that in the Port RA0 box, selecting High (from Low) starts the camera record....... go back to Low, then High again, stops the record.

Presume this is part of the software that the Impero works with... just nice to know I can start/stop from the laptop too.

Now looking forward to Jay's collimation video, followed up by a "This is how the Birger GUI works" video...

I can really use that on my next job thanks chris!

any inputs on the software being able to control two mounts simultaneously?
that's me loving the mount and considering it for a stereoscopic rig :)

Having a couple of problems with trying to collimate via Bluetooth on a PC using the /i pin interface.

1) Birger website has been revamped and can't find the latest firmware download from the given link:
http://www.birger.com/drivers/EF232LensLibrary19x.bei

but the PC application detects my mount as:
Canon EF-232 Library v19x
HW Rev: 4
Boot SW Rev: 45

so I think I'm up to date anyway.

2) The S4/i iris-focal length-focus distance readout in LCD/EVF monitoring seems to disappear and reappear at random which is rather inconvenient. Haven't pinned down a cause other than it might be more stable when the camera is first switched on but gets worse with time powered up. Not confirmed yet though.

Suggestion for BEI Device Interface
There's already a small readout of focal length. Can this be made BIG, and a similar big readout of Iris and Focus Distance? Useful to see it from a small distance? Then we don't have to rely on the S4/i interface for lens data readouts.

There is a problem with bluetooth connection. Everything was ok in the beginning. The BEI device was responding with the birger well. but now .. MAC book bluetooth shows birger, but BEI device interface does not find birger bluetooth device ... The program shows: Failed to open an RFCOMM serial channel

maybe you can help to solve the problem
thank you

Try removing the Birger from the MacBook Bluetooth, and then adding it back.

lens focus not working from laptop software ?

lens focus not working from laptop software ?

Have v1.1.0 installed, v19x library (Macbook Pro).
Don't have the i-data cable hooked up yet, and no Impero as yet... I'm just trying to control the lens from the GUI.

All this was working OK a week ago (well sort of anyway...)

Finding the lens(es) OK, can control aperture OK from the software.
Can "calibrate" the lens focus for distance, but then as soon as I attempt to alter the focus using the software, the focus jumps slightly then fails to respond any further.

No combination of initialising, removing and re-installing the software etc allows the focus to be adjusted from the software using the keypad settings or slider bar....

any ideas?

Chris

Which lens?
Last night I was recollimating with a 17-40mm L series, and a 10-22 EFS. Both responded the same way.
I have a bunch of other lenses here I'll test today also, and I'll also try another dual-boot Macbook, under both Mac and Windows to see if there's any difference.

Issues with 10-22, 17-40 and 24-70 are resolved in a release due out this week, probably on wednesday.

Great, thanks Eric. That reminds me that the 24-70 was the first one I noticed affected (on a shoot last week...).
I'll try them all out today. Thanks for the follow-up!

The broken links to the old software releases should be fixed by tomorrow. The new release should be out at that time as well. NAB took a lot more effort than we had budgetted.

I hope people enjoyed the 3D demo. I was paricularly impressed when the pair of 50mm f/1.2s were up. Canon really did a nice job with those lenses, particularly the servo loops and the mechanics. Sadly the 50s were only up on the cameras long enough for a couple of witnesses...

last version (EF232LensLibrary19x)

last version (EF232LensLibrary19x)

Does anyone can provide the last version?
I can't wait anymore.
Thanks a lot.
