  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Billy Summers...

At the risk of speaking out of school... we have been beta testing the new Magic Motion and the results are incredible. There are shots that are just dramatically better with the MM. Not all ... but what a great piece of development work. Really I could not be more impressed with how the R&D is progressing and the sensible and intelligent way the HDRx is moving.

Mike

Indeed Mike!
I think the HDRx stuff I've shot recently is the closest to film that I have ever acquired with a digital medium. The dynamic range combined with the amount of detail from the 5k sensor is very film like/amazing looking.

Thanks Billy. That is just beautiful.
Shooting moving car interiors will never be same again!

Fantastic stuff...can't wait to try out HDRx. Could any of you guys redirect me to any of the discussions/posts discussing how to use/adjust/fine tune HDRx in RCX? I'm anxious to know how it's used both in the field/in camera and in post.

Thanks for any guidance and thank you, Billy, for posting the shots...very exciting.

Damn, I can't tell you how much I love the look of this. Thanks so much, it's inspiring and I haven't even seen the motion yet :)

Matt, it's crazy easy!
Basically you right click on an HDRx clip that is in the bin and choose "Manual Pairing" from the menu. Then choose one of four options for pairing the two streams together.
At this point "HDR blend" will appear on the right in the color control panel/menu.
Grab the slider and blend to your heart's desire
That's it!
pretty cool.

Looking forward to see the whole music video.........

Hey guys,
Here is a short example of HDRx working on an exterior day car interior.
I'm not completely happy with the compression but I think it's a good example of what HDRx can buy you in this situation.

Wow, that is fantastic. There is much detail in both the shadows and highlights of it. A great example of what the tool can do. Thanks for posting Billy.

Looking good!

Lincoln & B'Way.. haha.. there all the time. It's great to see familiar environment in a new context and HDRx makes this look extraordinary!

Wow

That's really incredible. Just gorgeous footage. That shot should simply not be possible.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks Billy, really awesome stuff. And I agree with Frank, spent so much time on Lincoln and Broadway, great to see the old stomping grounds looking so good.
Keep em coming and thanks again :)

Killer look Billy. I cannot wait to mess around with HDRx. Was fortunate enough to work with Ketch this past weekend, but didn't get a chance to see how the HDRx stuff looked after it was shot. Your shot, is a perfect example of typical uses of HDRx.

You said that the whole shoot was done on HDRx, is there a "story or motif" reason for doing so? or was it just that all of your shots called for having the extra latitude?

Peter, although there was a particular "story motif" that corresponded to the narrative, the real reason we used HDRx was to compensate for our lack of budget. In order to achieve the same look without using HDRx we would have had to employ large daylight fixtures, a process trailer, larger grip and lighting department, and flown several 20x or 12X silks/bounces etc.
It was also an opportunity for me to jump off a cliff with the HDRx, so to speak. Until that day, I had never used it or seen it used, but in theory I thought it to be the perfect tool (and it was). I was a little worried, but then again it was a music video, so we had a lot of leeway creatively;)

Very impressed with the fact there was no additional lighting in your shot, Billy! That was a great showcase for the capability of HDRx.
