As Mike Hedge posted some weeks ago, during NAB this year we went out to shoot some footage.

Old thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12164

Special Thanks to all Red Ninjas, and specially Blair for his wonderfull matte box.

Schneider nonIR prototype filter was used during this production. Thanks to Schneider.

The final edit is not done at all, but i decided to upload a teaser.

Vimeo quality: http://www.vimeo.com/1034374 Vimeo brings the video gamma down a bit, for best performance watch the QT.

Where's the 1080p version? Your link is the old thread. :umm:

Hey Big Mac, very cool as usual.
I check out your other clips. Very great stuff.
I like your style a lot.

How much does the RED change your way of working?
Do you still would like to shoot film, if you had the money?
I'm just wondering. After shooting the RED for many weeks now, I still can
easily see the difference between film and RED. Not that the RED isn't great, but there is still a difference. I love the RED just to be clear.

Cheers
Tim

Quick answer: i don´t like to shoot film, but i think we can all agree it is still better in terms of cinematic feeling and quality (skin tones, latitude and dynamic range). For now. But nothing beats the RED in terms of flexibility/price/performance. THis biker thing would have been impossible if we had shot it in film.

Jep, I see it exactly the same way.
You cant beat the overall package.
It's like when the canon 1dsmark1 showed up.
It wasn't perfect but the whole package was just to good to ignore it.

The epic will probably be the long awaited film slayer (I hate the idea). I would say the transition from film to digital is starting right now, like it did in the photography industry not to long ago.

Keep up the great work man.

Cheers
Tim

where did you shoot it?

landscape is beautiful.
seeing this, all trust and patience in red is worth every second, every cent.
it´s just awesome to have such a tool for visualizing ideas and moods.

Wow Macgregor... all I can say is that I was already overventilating by the second shot. Had to hit pause because I was being blown away.

first shot... It was over 180º, right? why that choice if you don't mind me asking?

macgregor, is it ok to post a color corrected version of the picture on the first post in this thread only, with your permission?

nope, 1/48th. that´s the red one strobe fx problem.

Strobe effect? Didn't know about that one. Is it discussed in any other thread? Does it have anything to do with the rolling shutter?

BTW, thanks to this clip I see the rolling shutter problem in another light now. It was definitely there, if you pause on some frames, but on normal viewing it's barely noticeable, even in the shaky shots.

Macgregor, did you conceive this shoot as a proof of fire to see how far you can push the RED on shots with lateral movement? Did you get any shot that was unuseable because of this? What's your opinion on the issue?
