  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Biggest, Baddest Backpack for RED

I have a Cinebags backpack. There are some nice details on the bag and its good being able to stick it in carryon, hike with it and have a laptop in there with it. However, the main zipper isn't very good and the stitching on the belt started going within first year.

As Blair and Nils mentioned, I have a few Tamrac 5258 and love them. Plus very importantly, the 5258 meets the airline carry-on measurement requirements. The 5258 backpacks were my first Red backpacks clear back in 2007, and I still use them regularly.

For when I don't have to fly with the backpack (its above airline size requirements), and I need extra space in a backpack for a hike, I use a Lowepro Pro Trekker, the same as Kennan does. In fact, it was Kennan who first demonstrated that Lowepro bag to me when I visited his studio last year.

So, those are the two types of backpacks I use with Red One - the Tamrac 5258 and the Lowepro Pro Trekker.

I must be a "bagaholic" (just like I'm a "lensaholic") because I also have several other top-carry camera bags for non-hiking use: two styles of Portabrace quick draw bags, one Petrol "doctor case" style bag, and one of those gray and red CineBags they were selling at NAB 2008.

I also have about 8 different sizes of Pelican cases for heavy and risky transport of my kits.

Whew...I have no further need to invest in any camera backpacks, bags, or hard cases! Hmmm...then again with the smaller size and increased portability of Epic and Scarlet...:)

Maybe we should start a support group for caseaholics, but it's so important to getting our work done. I've got Dana, Gregory, Lowe, Petrol, and Portabrace packs, several portabrace bags, and about twenty Pelicans. I'm still looking for perfection - carries like a Gregory, opens like a Portabrace, and tough as a Petrol. I'm waiting to see how big my Epic kit is for the next version. Today I did not buy any gear.

Today I received the newest from Lowepro the Pro Trekker 600 AW, and out of the box it is AWESOME!

I asked for a Red suitable wilderness pack to carry some 60 pounds plus some days meals and water and my computer and here it is, see photos!

I will take photos and videos as I learn where to put everything!

SURFS UP, I am out of here! Just wanted to tease you, with this newest of packs!!!

Lowepro Rules!

PEACE,

Kennan

There is another way to approach the backpack style for carrying your camera that I would recommend. This is still using a Pelican case but having a backpack rig built to carry the Pelican. I have used this technique in the past. We got a backpack custom made for carrying a Pelican 1550. The only down side is that the pack has to be taken off to open the Pelican case.
