  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big news...

Obviously Alexey believes RED is impervious to the outside world. I'm sure there has been quite a few rants in-house at RED HQ about the problems going on. Some things my friend cannot be helped. I sympathise with your position but almost all of the problems that have stalled the camera lines coming out of the control of RED. Whether it be economic, a natural disaster or a big bug that that took a while to kill.

The secret to patience is doing something else in the meantime - whether its use other equipment, buy a temporary filler or do something else. Ranting ain't gonna get you anywhere. Its a waste of energy...

Is "Tattoo" online anywhere?

No. Not that we have been told. It would only be a fraction as effective than seeing at the event obviously but I too (obviously) am very keen to see it - even from just a creative prospective.

True... well half-true, as the benefits of HDRx are obvious/visible regardless of compression (it's an epic showpiece right?)

Blown away by the new accesories for Epic. Insane. Tattoo was super cool too. Unreal low light performance.

Alexey, with all due respect, your messages are coming off as very aggressive. It might be a language barrier, or maybe you are very upset but I suggest trying your best to present your case in a respectful way. Make your points clear, but try not to disrespect RED in their own house. There's a difference between constructive criticism and aggressive, antagonistic talk. I'm trying to give you the heads up before any ban happens. Others have expressed disappointment articulately and I think you will find that is better received.

Sorry for inconvenience! It is just seems like it:))) I just want to tell that bet is so high and to call the things its real name! And not to hear after posting this topic by Jim everything is ok, good news! What is ok?"))) What good thing Jim said, what good news?:)) The things a really not good! And it is not honestly after 3 years of hope to hear: And now we don't tell you anything anymore! Of course I will be waiting for Epic-S!:))) But I don't need to tell that everything is ok it is not ok and I think we need to wait once more 1 year, but I hope all we get camera which be deserving for these 3-4 years of hope and waiting!")))) And I don't want to kiss RED TEAM because of possible ban and tell... Delay? Not problem! End of transparancy! That is ok! Awesome! Good job! It is ok! Because it is not ok! And it is quite not Ok! And everybody knows that is absolutly is not ok! Delay it is a real big problem and crush of many hopes it is entirely not ok! And end of transparancy is entirely not ok! I am here every day for 3 years! It is about 1100 times, 100 days 1100 hopes! And today 1101-th hope was broken! Ban me for this?:)) I dont think it is a good idea! I was born in Soviet Union! I know what is intolerance for another viewpoint:)))

Wow you sound a lot like my 3 year old on a bad day. Don't worry they will get them out as soon as possible. You're going to give yourself a heart attack or something. Go make some magic with whatever camera you have and be happy.

I'm in the same boat as many of you.

Not as deep, I'm "only" stage 3, but I'm beyond appalled that some of you are so upset as to push Jim to do this [Edit due to further conversation: This is harsh. We know Jim is smarter than this - just frustrated at the time.]. Maybe it's a smart move on their part, anyway, but... what it at least "looks" like got it here seems very self centered.

I get it. It's about business. It's about lengthy commitments. It's about money, and time. It's about keeping promises. It's about reliability.

RED has meant so much to us. They've given us things we only dreamed about before they stepped up to the plate. I'm not saying they are perfect, but neither are they claiming it. What they are is a company who opened themselves to us as their customers in a way that most will agree is unprecedented.

We've become so used to their openness that we now take it for granted. We expect certain levels of communication. We expect release timeframes to be met even though they made clear things could and would change. We expect top form excellence at every turn (this, I feel, has not been anything less than fully met and exceeded). We expect honesty and openness. We expect humility in the face of changes or new delays.

Look, please, back at everything they have done. Look at their program. Their commitment. The fact that the head of this company and everyone standing with him who has been accessible - DIRECTLY ACCESSIBLE - since the beginning. Point me to another company working at or above the level they are that is so tangible to the masses of professional and aspiring artists who roam the forums, whether they own the product or not. Look at the community that they have created, where masters in the fields we love are here to answer our questions. Relationships, jobs, and great art have all been created as a result of this company.

What's happened in the last few days is akin to them saying "OH MY GOD, GUYS, LOOK WHAT WE DID! THIS IS AMAZING! AHHH!!!!" and us replying with "Yeah... Let me know when I can have it for myself."

Is it never enough? Can't we let them share their excitement when they develop something new with us? I know I want to hear about it.

High horse, people. Get. Off. Something about refusing service to people with bad attitudes... do we really want to play a part in turning RED, if only in part, towards being similar to the other companies we constantly praise them for not being like?

Just rethink your stance, at least, is what I'm saying. I'm not you, you're not me, I know. Just don't be too tough on these guys. They're working so hard.

Pierce, don't assume that RED decided to not be open anymore based on the fact that a handful of people are not enthusiastic with the new NAB announcements. I'm sure RED & Jim have much deeper reasons for making this decision. It's naive & dangerous to think that negative Redusers are the culprit behind this decision.

Ted did mention in a video clip that I saw from NAB that they holding their cards close to their chest from here on out to stay a step (or several) ahead of competitors. It's possible that is the reason for the change entirely.

Jim, thanks for the upgrade path to Dragon. I think many folks appreciate it greatly, though the fog may be thick.

reasonable questions

reasonable questions

I think anyone who's reasonable here understands that if RED could get Epic-X and Epic-S (what I desperately desire) out the door now, they would. No one could have foreseen the disaster in Japan.

I understand also Jim wanting to keep things closer to the chest, for a variety of reasons, BUT now that promises (sorta, things subject to change...) have been made, I do think all us hopeful customers deserve something as simple as this:
1) Considering the Japan disaster and any other issues that have cropped up, can you give us a NEW estimate of when Epic-X and Epic-S will be shipping (both to Stage2, Stage3, and to NEW customers)? If the answer is "no time soon", then at least that's something to go by. But if the answer is, by the end of summer still, or Fall, then maybe that will help some people (like me) make decisions.
2) If the situation is so up in the air, which I would understand considering the Japan crisis, then please just let us know, "guys, we can't give you an accurate timeframe at this point", and when you can give us one, please do.

That's it. I would really appreciate just that much info from you guys at RED.

Thanks so much for all your hard work and creating such magnificent products.

There seems to be some sort of idea that Jim and the RED team would make a business marketing strategy decision based on a negative forum response or frustrated forum posts. I think they have listened to customers across the board, negative and positive, but Jim is hardly new to business, he's not going to suddenly go all emo and hide because he's upset by a forum comment like some are suggesting. Wise up.

They have looked at the situation as a whole, the kind of image they want for their company and the threat from competitors (which is very real these days, RED aren't out so far in front anymore) The only sane way forward is to become more conservative with their information.

Stop thinking of RED like it is an upset child that is hiding from the forum bullies. It is a business decision that Jim has made and it is the right one in my opinion (which doesn't count for much admittedly) :smile5:

In the early days Jim had open discussions on this forum and his competitors just laughed. Nowadays, Jim talks openly and his competitors take notes. It is clearly smart business strategy to not 'show your hand' to your competitors.

Yes..most likely a business decision. After all anticipated
res. specs..dynamic range..and frame rates are in effect
telling both your customers and competitors where you are.
In essence giving them a target or goal to hit that they
might not even attempt or think of if left to their own devices.

Red stands apart...but they don't have a monopoly
on smart engineers. Human nature being what it is
if people are given a target to hit they will find a way
to do it eventually.

I'm very excited about the Monstro Upgrade for Epic.
Would the upgraded sensor have the same lense coverage area to get to a 5K image?
Is the upgraded camera 16bit?
Much appreciated, have a blast at NAB.

Remember, no news here is good news.....halelujaaah

Iv always said I will own a RED camera someday, and I still believe that. Every great project hits bumps on the road, and everyone knows that there was absolutely nothing anybody could do about the crisis in Japan. Although some are sad that they might have to wait a little longer, I think I speak for all of us when I say we are all still behind this company 100%. And whatever decisions you make I know I support because in the end its whats in the best interest of the company and your products. I believe you guys are doing a fantastic job and I am glad to say I have always been proud to be a fan of RED and always will be! I'm just as excited now as I ever was, So keep up the good work!
