  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big news...

Tim, now that is a sense of community! I'm grateful. However you would take that back if you truly know where I go. Like into danger zones of erupting volcanos being pelted by ash and pumice, or trekking through insane African swamps chasing armed poachers etc.

I agree with you, all you can deal with is what you can get. I'm pleased to think how far this industry has come in the last 5 years. But it is a industry based on dreams!

... I will say that we held back one big announcement due to circumstances beyond our control.

The situation in Japan has caused problems for us, current and future, even though the part count is very low for any one of them. Our announcements, from now on, will only be about products that are ready to ship. The RED Dragon program is the last forward looking announcement we will make...

Everything changes. From now on.. So will our announcements.

Jim

I sympathize with any "scoffing at" RED may be experiencing... I've been scoffed at quite a lot for telling people I would have at least one of my cameras just any month now even though it's not my fault, not RED's fault... probably not any human fault. Reading between the lines, it would appear that the parts problem is far from being solved.

In a compensatory move, I am lowering expectations to nil... and with no further status updates, hope is in torpor.

I am sure all we need a clarification about new situation!

For clarification: Red is working as hard as possible to deliver products as soon as possible. Because of supply problems, they do not know when that willl be. If you must have a camera by a certain date, rent a Red One or buy something else. I understand why Jim is sick of the whining by people who think Scarlet or Epic S is their ticket to the big time. If you've got a decent story or script, it doesn't make fuck all differnece what camera you have, so stop bashing Red for not telling you what you want to hear. Clear enough?

Too many haters that couldn't go to NAB, too many haters that refuse to accept the "everything changes", or refuse to recognize the late delivery precedent Red has had to own up to many times. There are too many haters that want to make decisions without putting thought into them. Screw that.

Thank you Red for pushing technology forward and chatting with us along the way. Epic is Epic. The Red One was (IS) revolutionary. Turning obsolesce as obsolete as possible is revolutionary. Do what you please Jannard, and let the haters drown in their own soup. You are not a baby sitter, you are running a business, and the rebel leading the charge full steam ahead when everyone else thinks that everything is good enough... until people saved up again. If you are not gonna post, that's cool, we get it. It might let you focus better, and avoid others' stress being dumped on you. It might be good for business, and if it is good for you. But don't you dare stop pushing! Please. Red rocks, you rock, the Red team rocks... sure you guys suck with delivery dates, but so what! You are still several years early!

BTW, for those saying that they took out a loan, remember, YOU took out a loan.

Hoping all the best for everyone, Jannard included.

Can anyone point me to any solid information about the Projector announcement? I've looked through the forum and can't find anything more than than it is real.

Thanks!

I liked the old Reduser too, but to be honest it's been a while since I've really liked this website, it's become very bloated
It's had it's ups and downs before, but everyday consumers feel entitled to everything... today. Even when the cameras release they'll want more. They're insatiable. Ever since the Scarlet gained traction with the consumer, prosumer market the board has been flooded with n00bs who don't know a lick about patience or even how to search. I think we also got a bit disjointed when the board gained so many categories. Perhaps Jarred should consider reducing the breadth of the board to simpler categories and send everything else to DVXuser. Get back to basics...

Im personally really bummed out. It has been exciting reading and watching RED grow as a company from day 1. The transparency was unreal and kinda made some of us feel like we were right there going through all the highs and lows with folks working 24/7 on the cameras. The people that brought Jim to the conclusion to make this decision should ****** ***** **** ****. You ruined something that was very educational and unique. I've never seen any sort of open and honest transparency from any other company in the cinema world or from any company of its caliber for that matter.

Some need to understand that Jim was billionaire from selling Oakley (that he started from ground up) and could have just bought an island and retired. Instead he went in for round 2 and starts a camera company that has shaken up the entire industry. On top of that Jim shared his entire platform of taking a dream/passion and turning it into something great. He didn't hide it, instead he put it out there for everyone to get excited about and learn. I have personally learned a ton about running a company from RED's transparency. But now the doors are shut and we will be in the dark just like where all the other companies love keeping us. Its easy that way. Jim is probably relieved he doesn't have to spend his time or money on being transparent. Bummer for us that the ride is over.

This is a great move from Jim and the RED team. Totally back you guys all the way on this one, well done for finally taking the leap to a more professional marketing strategy and turning away from this ongoing hyperbole. It seems like you have listened to those who, while always fans of yours, still felt the need to level with you and let you know we were disappointed and frustrated by the lack of delivery. Thanks for listening and I hope this sets you on a brighter path and relieves a portion of the stress I'm sure you are all feeling. Keep up the good work, Epic looks amazing, the Dragon upgrade is more than a generous upgrade, the course you are taking towards 4K delivery is great, hopefully you get the Scarlet and Epic programs caught up soon and I hope you can post a link to that Tattoo film soon so I can check it out. Until then, keep on working and let us know when you are ready and not before.

Cheers

Stewart, I couldn't disagree with you more. The so called 'more professional marketing strategy' would not have made RED what it is today. RED's currently marketing strategy helped to solidify the company. It created constant talk online. RED is a very small company. If they had just announced the camera and shut up firstly we would likely not have some of the features that are currently on the camera lines and RED might not have such a wide following. Sure the products speak for themselves but unless you spend a fortune on marketing to the wide gamut of professionals that RED were aiming at a new approach was needed. The internet IS the strategy for marketing today. All of the heat and passion (both positive and negative) helped RED more than it hindered them. The professional marketing strategy that you mentioned doesn't make the most of the platforms that are available. RED made the right choice in how they chose to approach it. But then Jim is obviously an expert when it comes to that kind of thing. There is naturally, as with any strategy, a side effect. RED have already chosen to change their strategy a bit, in Q3 of last year. That was mainly due to the competition. Companies evolve over time but the LAST thing we want is for RED to become the same as all the other companies.

I don't think you did just disagree with me, you talked about RED as a beginner company finding its place in the market. That isn't the case anymore, the guys shooting feature films who want RED cameras are getting them, the rest of us want them. we don't need the hype anymore, we need the product. But I'm not getting drawn into a dispute about it. REDUSER is filled with that kind of crap. Like you said, Jim is the expert, and he is taking the right road by holding back on the announcements until they are more solid.

the NAB is running now. Let the RED TEAM works, today or tomorrow I hope that the RED guys release a surprise and new details about the items :)

Best regards

I find REDUSER to be extremely handy and not full of crap. Its the few comments like yours that drives a company into hiding. Open your mind a little.

so is there no official word from red on anything other than some leica partnership announcement? all other news i have seen just looks like rumors and speculation so far. can someone point me to a list of highlights, announcements, statements or even facts (yeah, right) from the show by someone that has/is attending without derailing the thread again? it's called "big news" but all i can see are half whining about red and half praising red and for those who haven't attended, it's all very confusing. not trying to be overly critical but the red coverage in 2007 was more coherent and useful.

I do not wish to get into a dispute with you about it either. I agree with your latter post, for the most part, I did however take exception to the "well done for finally taking the leap to a more professional marketing strategy and turning away from this ongoing hyperbole". I commend them for what they have done. Its likely that now is a good time to take a step back.

...I'll leave the strategies up to Jim and his team.

Hi Dustin, I agreed with Jim in my post and said I thought it was a great move and I support him and the RED team, why would that cause them to go into hiding? You just didn't read my posts mate. when i said 'RED user is full of crap like that" i meant the needless disputes, much like the one you are trying to have with me.

Read my posts, I am supportive of Jim's decision, it's a good move. If you think I'm wrong to support Jim and he is wrong by all means you are entitled to your opinion, I just don't want to argue about it. If you have a comment to make about the original post by Jim then please make it, but don't bother telling me what you think of my posts please.

Totally agree Tim. To clarify my hyperbole statement, I know it was necessary to get attention early days, but these days it seems more detrimental than helpful. I think it is a well timed and very welcome shift in strategy.

it's all very confusing. not trying to be overly critical but the red coverage in 2007 was more coherent and useful.

This is a very good point. RED did say we will have news at NAB but then didn't actually make a statement saying "here is the news we told you about". So it makes sense that people are confused and asking, "was that the news?"

I realize that the RED Team are working at NAB and probably not hanging out on REDUser, but much of the confusion and some of the disappointment at the "no news, news" regarding EPIC/Scarlet delivery could have been avoided by actually making an official announcement.

And after all, the Dragon announcement made it's way onto REDUser, through non-RED Team members tweeting, blogging, posting. I read about Dragon and was waiting for RED to make an official statement.

Just trying to offer constructive feedback.

Alexey, with all due respect, your messages are coming off as very aggressive. It might be a language barrier, or maybe you are very upset but I suggest trying your best to present your case in a respectful way. Make your points clear, but try not to disrespect RED in their own house. There's a difference between constructive criticism and aggressive, antagonistic talk. I'm trying to give you the heads up before any ban happens. Others have expressed disappointment articulately and I think you will find that is better received.
