  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big Change...

I didn't get paid tho, every time i'd finish three jobs i'd get a piece of gear, this went on from 9-16.

I went back into a drawing/art school rampage from 16-about 21, then back to audio, except everything was digital and cheap. I looked for a tascam da-88 for weeks i remember.

Moving picture happened last year.

Again, cheers mate, keep gettin paid. School's easy, no reason you shouldn't pull a 3.6 blindfolded if you're mom's yellin at you for a 4.0.

You rock, if you need anything online from the ends of the earth let me know you have a supporter out here in lebanon.

haha. Thanks a lot bud, that means a lot. I definitely can't believe the money I'm making. Getting $500-700 a wedding is something I never would have imagined! Thanks for the support tho, thats cool. I don't know if I deserve the Scarlet more than anyone else tho. It's only possible for me because besides the 25 percent of what I earn going to my "mom's taxes" (10 to charity, 15 for college) I don't have really any of life's normal expenses. No rent, food, etc. Anywho, i'm really excited to see a camera of such capabilities being in a price range suitable for independent filmmakers and videographers alike. Don't doubt it, it's a redvolution.

April 21, 1993, anyone younger buying the Scarlet no help, by themselves? Ok, it's time i stopped asking haha.:innocent:

Good on you mate.

What do you shoot with? how do you color grade what options have you picked? I'm just getting on the video bandwagon, still tryin all kinds of stuff with footage i already have off several sources.

Alright, i'm hooked, we should figure out the youngest. My birthday is April 21, 1993. Anyone younger who is looking to buy a scarlet with no financial help and they would be the only owner? Btw, dont tell my mom I posted my birthday :clown2:

You are younger than my by 14 days. Looks like you got lucky this time...

My 39 years old embarrass me.

A kindergarden sub-forum Jarred, please! </just kidding>

I hope the big news includes...

1. the end of Beta versions of Redcine and other Red software.
2. Red buys Crimson Workflow, rolls out a final release and integrates it's forum into this one. -OR- Redcine to accept EDL's, simplifying the proxy workflow.
3. Redcine gets improved OLPF controls.

Right now I'm shooting with 2 canon GL-2, a camera that I don't consider to be on the professional level by any means. These cameras are owned by the person I work with, so the scarlet would actually be my first camera. I keep a Gl2 constantly for any video work I do. They're good cameras for the money, considering what it is. So yeah, I shoot on Gl2's and edit on Final Cut Pro. My main income is weddings by far, but im also into recitals, theatre, etc. I also don't mind doing a slideshow for a couple hundred, people go crazy over those. haha. I'm excited to see that the scarlet is in my price range tho because it is a camera deffinetely on a professional level and I feel if im charging professional prices it is only fair that I use a professional camera, something that would be a little hard to afford till the RED came along. I'm going to guess 8K for a working scarlet package, just the things neccesary to shoot something simple, no cases or additional add ons. So anyone who doesn't think RED is ingenous needs to go to Bandhphotovideo.com and see what kind of camera you can get for 8K from the other companies. I'll tell you right now it doesn't compare!

haha guess so bud. Thats awesome to see there are other teenagers doing the same work tho! Cool dude.

I don't think RED is good for shooting in very low light conditions.

Don't worry, Paris loves bright lights.

I haven't had a chance to make it to anything paid yet. I do my bit and i'm trying to find an inroad somewhere, maybe just as an assistant or something to someone shooting weddings. I hope that by the time the scarlets are released, I might have enough to buy one.

At 16, I must seem a little ancient, but I think that it's great that someone who is genuinely interested in photography and cinematography has set up a company like RED to really bring these cameras into the hands of us mere mortals. I reckon we'll start to see a lot of very high quality student films very soon (We've just started writing the script for ours, it'll probably take longer for us to write a script than it did for red to release the scarlets).

Good luck with your projects, and I hope that when you get your RED, it'll help with your business to really bring what you're doing onto a new level.

these days it feels like Red is just a marketing company. need to get ONE running stable before they pull devs off on new projects. come on dudes, build 17 is awful! how long ago was the ONE introduced? give me a break. go read this and stop drinking the coolaid http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/freshdv/story/red_renders_previous_koolaid_vouchers_obsolete/

I guess you are right. No one has had any luck whatsoever shooting RED and getting great images...

People these days expect to be handed things

People these days expect to be handed things

Its really sad to have people come onto these forums and going on how crap some of the stuff RED has done is...
Build 17...
The things that haven't delivered...
The specs for Scarlet and Epic
has no one bothered to think what they have delivered in front of every other company out there that is far bigger then them at the same price?
I'm not saying that they haven't had their mishaps...but at least Jim has warned about changes...
nothing is perfect first time...
Titanic sank and everyone said that was perfect...
point in being that the Red is opposite to the Titanic..it has its faults...but they are getting rid of them...
Fine. I don't own a red one...but I hope I'll have enough to own at least a scarlet and progress on to an Epic..
I put my trust in a company such as RED that listens to its customers...
People need to give time...Red Ray...its aimed at 2009...Projectors and screens..its on their list I'm sure..but not high up...
much like Apple saying that their iPhone could do background pushing in September and yet we haven't seen an update that includes such a feature till now...
Jim and his team have come a long way since the start and the things I've seen created with Red One is amazing... so I can't wait to see what is to be done with the new goods once they are out...

so fucking annoying.

why do people assume that if Red is announcing new stuff it automatically means that they have given up working on other shit?

every announcement shows they have improved everything even more. would people rather they stop the improvements?

if anything, amidst all the "annoying announcements" Red has been doing lately, my own personal support from Red has improved. it's clear to me that the company is improving every single day, in every aspect.

my three cameras work great, and whenever i need help with anything, not necessarily camera related, I get an instant fantastic supportive response from Red no matter what day of the week it is, or what time it is. I don't feel forgotten or left out at all, my cameras are amazing, I can't wait to see them improve, and I'm excited to be along for the ride.

Sure, I love the Red pictures and I would kill to own a Red One... but let's face it : if you're like me doing all the post with a PC, it's a real pain.

Where is this f.... Adobe plugin announced to be "released next week" months ago ? Why is the Red team wasting so much time with these 3d renders which excite only the geeks out there instead of working on the QT Redcode plugin for PC ? At this point, you can't even preview the QT proxy files on a PC.

And no, Redcine is still very buggy on the PC side.

Come on, Red guys, stop announcing, start delivering... at least the PC softs...

Jean-Charles (yeah, I know, Kristin is my girlfriend, don't bother me with my "fake name")

This "pro video coalition" article is such bullshit. This guy is such a douche.

I'm sorry to flame and curse on this board, but FUCK this. It's really fucking upsetting to read crap like that. If any dates slip its for a damned good reason, I highly doubt because someone at Red is slipping up, or dreaming up new specs. Also, including these "slipped/pushed back" dates, I am completely blown the fuck away at how quickly Red produced the Red one from concept to shipping to my front door. BLOWN AWAY. People that whine like this article make me grow a big rubbery one

I did drink the RED coolaid and I wouldn't change a thing. So what, Jim changes his mind. So what, things didn't ship on time. So what ....... RED Delivers and they deliver HUGE! No other camera company does what RED does. What they may lack in timeline they make up for in Product and Customer Service. And at the end of the day, I'll take that over anything else. Not happy with your RED? Sell it. Don't have one? SHUT UP!

Look at what you're saying. Do you HONESTLY THINK rendering some 3d shit out at 3am is actually causing a significant delay to the QT Redcode plugin? Jesus christ. Also I'm pretty sure it was Jim, Jarred, and Matt who were rendering shit, it's someone else's job to work on the QT Redcode plugin.

Everyone thinks they know how the company works, and what would cause a delay or waste valuable production time at Red, but nobody knows anything. They managed to make the most insane camera of all time in the shortest amount of time possible, why don't we give them the benefit of the doubt that they know how to manage their time and resources.

Jim didn't "change his mind," dude. They discovered stuff along the way that was basically such an insane opportunity that it would be A SIN not to change shit and redesign everything. Would you prefer EPIC stay a $40,000 non-modular camera? Technological advancements and internal discoveries at Red contributed to that announcement, not some WHIM OF A MADMAN
