  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big Change...

Please, Jim, teaser...

Please, Jim, teaser...

Jim,

Can you give us at least a true teaser, something very creative, that will make us go crazy and clueless, please??? :waaa:

Youngest?

Youngest?

You have a Red One?

Haha no I don't have a red one. When i was asking if I would be the youngest I meant if I was to buy a Scarlet. I'm very strongly considering purchasing a scarlet when it's released. And for all those saying their little kids co-own it or something like that, thats not what I'm talking about!!! :bleh: I mean totally purchasing the camera by myself, no financial help! haha. And no co-owning. The only factor that really determines if I'll get it or not is if it will be able to be fit into my wedding editing workflow. Time will tell.

So let me rephrase my question, would I be the youngest, at age 15, to purchase the camera by myself, with no financial support, and the camera being entirely mine? :clown2:

I would think a few people in your age group might be interested in getting one of the entry level systems, but even if you are not the youngest, I am quite impressed that you have your own video business at 15. I have shot weddings with the Red One as a test. They are tough due to the size of the camera rig and the challenges of low light, but you can get some amazing images. With Scarlet delivering a smaller form factor, and Redcode RAW images this will certainly take your footage up a notch. Hopefully by the time those cameras are released, the workflow will be faster and streamlined. That will help with turnaround times for your projects.

Congrats on being a young entrepreneur. That's cool.

Depends on what month you were born. I am 15, and I plan on purchasing Scarlet without help.

We wish! No more than an estimated date, I'm afraid.

Haha. Thanks man! Yeah, I cant justify going out and buying a Sony z7u for around 5K when I could spend ? 7K-10K? to get a scarlet, a camera with capabilities ten times over that of the z7u!!! As for my business, I actually work alongside someone else, as well as do freelance work on the side. Amazes me what kind of business you can get if you do good work and can be trusted! I have my mom yelling at me to get a 4.0 and people calling me about job offers at the same time. Anywho, the Scarlet may be out of the range that independent videographers are looking at, but any person who knows anything about cameras would know the extra money is so well worth it. If RED can keep the same motto, business sense, and just their ideas on the technology market I will be sticking with them from now on.

Alright, i'm hooked, we should figure out the youngest. My birthday is April 21, 1993. Anyone younger who is looking to buy a scarlet with no financial help and they would be the only owner? Btw, dont tell my mom I posted my birthday :clown2:

I had my video business when I was 15 ... that was giant camera VHS tape time (1985!) ...

youngest at heart?

youngest at heart?

Well, im not the youngest, but I can say that I did start somewhere around that age and all I can say is to keep it up because its the experience and the people that you know which makes one successful :)

Anyhoo, im 19 now and looking to buy a Scarlet once it proves to be something I need and not something I want. I've already got $13k saved up for either a car or a scarlet, so I can say that I would be buying one without financial help, unless I decide I want to buy it to help me build credit :)

Reminder...

Reminder...

Friends,
I am 22 (Not the youngest, not the oldest) and am not planning on purchasing a Scarlet right away. I plan on renting them for the situations that call for them. It will be an amazing tool, no doubt. However, like all technology, it is just that... A Tool. WE tell the story... not the CMOS Sensor (no matter how cool it is...) :)
Thank you Jim and Crew for making an amazing tool for the Filmmaker in all of us. I hope we can create and tell some amazing stories together... :)

After reading the statement from Jim about Canons "parlor trick" (skipping pixels to get 1080p recording from their "full" sensor area)... I've started thinking...

Actually... Even though it isn't exactly in the RED-way. Why not use that same parlor-trick and better Canons result. The Canon sollution does have it's merits, though it's hampered by lack of controll of exposure (as I have been told at least. I don't know if it can be worked around like with the semi-auto HV20), crippling compression, limited FPS control and no raw...

OK you are BANISHED from this forum for even suggesting something like that! :)

Dude I did my first analog mixdown on an AMS Neve board at 12. Rock the f**k on.

You probably deserve this cam more than any of us.

cheers mate

I didn't get paid tho, every time i'd finish three jobs i'd get a piece of gear, this went on from 9-16.

I went back into a drawing/art school rampage from 16-about 21, then back to audio, except everything was digital and cheap. I looked for a tascam da-88 for weeks i remember.

Moving picture happened last year.

Again, cheers mate, keep gettin paid. School's easy, no reason you shouldn't pull a 3.6 blindfolded if you're mom's yellin at you for a 4.0.

You rock, if you need anything online from the ends of the earth let me know you have a supporter out here in lebanon.

OK I'm going to officialy make a request. :-)

Now that we have an idea of how the FCP/Color workflow will evolve over time, and since it is obvious FCP/Color will never support the original r3d files from the camera on the timeline, it would be FANTASTIC if the camera would WRAP the r3d files for us instead of doing a file ingest to "re-warp" the r3d into Quicktime files for Editing/CC in FCP/Color.

Obviously this should be a software (firmware) option so we can select what WRAPER we would like before shooting. Captain Jannard, make it so! :-)
