  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big butch men straining in up to 300 FPS!

As usual, great imagery. And, as I already had pointed out on the "boat" video, disappointed with use of Magic Bullet for grading.
There are many professional grading tools available, including Resolve, as to not to reduce beautiful Epic images to the lowest common denominator of painting by numbers...

Agreed. The yellow highlights on the skin tones reminded me of the old HVX200 days.

nice!
like it, love the 300 frames anyway.
may I ask which lens you used?

no comment on the music! :-)

Philip mentions on his blog (here's the snip):

"Lenses were all PL lenses. I really could have done with longer lenses but I didn’t (and still don’t have the Canon mount) so all I had was the Tokina 11-16 PL version, the RED 18-50mm T3 zoom and 3 CP.2 lenses. The 35, 50 and 85mm all F2.1. I had no long lenses which to be honest was a pain."

Philip, I highly suggest looking at a Red Rocket Thunderbolt solution in the next few months. I have not had to do multiple day transcodes in a long time. Well worth the time you save. Until there is a better solution, it's still the best way to get through large amounts of data. We used a 2 rocket system on the last movie I did and pumped through hours of footage at 2x realtime.

In terms of the film, I liked the compositions and the slow mo was fun to watch.

Nice Philip, I like the Audience side...
Glad you join the Epic Addicted Users.
Cheers from Brazil.

Wow, he made the Epic look just like a DSLR with that grade.

Transcoding? What's that?

I believe that was the ancient art of chasing down your pray on foot and trying to wear it down before pouncing on it many hours later...you see this ancient art of "transcoding" in caveman section at local museum where man stands over dead meat as he holds bloody leg bone to mouth after having "transcoded"

Transcoding? What's that?
It's what happens when you deal with clients. :-)

Native isn't always an option, and simply doesn't work for some workflows.

But I understand your point, and things are starting to move in that direction.

you really shouldn't dismiss magic bullet this way. version 2 is an incredibly powerful tool that takes much of colorista II. you can fine tune to your heart's content. it's not about throwing a preset on it. you should check out version 2.

it's also the damn fastest way to grade something when editing on a plane!

I am offended somewhat by you saying my grading is like painting by numbers, I did spend a fair bit of time making it look this way.

Ash,

erm...that's kind of rude. But hey that's your opinion.

grading is a CHOICE. a style, a look that you want. pretty ridiculous thing to say it looks like a dslr. Am assuming you must have shot with a DSLR at some point? For any DSLR footage to look like my grade it would have to be graded to look like that! If your DSLR that you have shot with (if you haven't then makes the comment even more silly) shoots footage with those colours then you need to change your settings pronto!

so my choice of faded film look for this little piece is not to everyone's taste. that is fine but there are ways of saying it without being rude!

sigh.

Nice work Phillip, glad to hear the Epic has been running smoothly since that badly timed hiccup. I love the slo-mo shots of everyone's faces, there is so much that is said without being said just by seeing their expressions. Great Stuff.
