  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta REDCODE QT Codec v4.1

In my opinion, as it stands now the proxies are not even close, I love the new color science and my images look great in REDCINE-X...but in other programs the looks you created there look nothing like it.

The difference I see in the Rocketcine-X/REDCINE-X viewer, rendered image as QuickTime movie and the proxy opened on QT7 are subtle as I posted. If you don't get that result then you have something working as old color science.

I must have something wrong because even the last quicktime codec I used looked reasonably good, once I installed the new one it looks like the proxies looked in the quicktime codec several versions back where the movies are really desaturated.

What can I do to access the new color science?

Dan,

You ARE creating new proxies (make QuickTime) after updating the QT codec 4,1 right?

FCP is always looking at the proxies. So with the new QT codec, you have to do "make QT" to generate the new proxies with latest color science.

I would save the timeline as XML, then open the Clipfinder, import FCP XML, so the used clips would list up in the Clipfinder, next select all, then go to menu and select "make QuickTime". Then the look of the proxies will be regenerated so when you go back to the timeline you were editing, would get updated with new look.

Because the proxies are made when Camera shot the footage, or when you conduct "Make QuickTime", then FCP and QT Player are made to look at the proxies to edit, not R3D natively. Then if you open it in Apple Color, it will look at the native R3D with newer color science if you have the new Color plugin is installed.

The FLUT science developing on Apple environment is its on the way and not quite completed, so have to do things manually. That is why.

heya Devs, here's my experience with this alpha QT codec.

The exposure of our footage looks perfect in RedCine-X b226. Note this was shot with the MX sensor, REDColor, REDgamma. We use the QT codec to automate our dailies workflow.

Installed new QT codec. --> Quicktimes now look much too bright, whites blown out.

Exported new wrappers with Redcine-X b226 --> Quicktimes now look very dark, under exposed....

Any ideas. Can't seem to get the quicktimes looking anywhere near the Redcine-X metadata????

Chris....something I've been trying to work out for over a week now....see my thread at: (washed out looking QT transcodes)

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44323&highlight=r3d+washed+out

What build you on? i thought we were only up to build 221...you on build 226? and a NEW QT codec since 4.1?

So I downloaded this, and copied it to the correct folder. I didn't notice anything different in Apple Color; no REDcolor or REDgamma choices... what am I doing wrong?

Jamie,

Did you copy them to replace the original, or were you able to just copy the files?

If there was nothing to replace to copy, then you might have looked at the wrong place. Make sure you are copying to the main library folder, not in your account.

Is this codec "primetime"yet. Seems it's been out for a while but not yet on the RED support page?

Is this going to help programs like RedRushes and Ciipfinder be able to output the correct color science? As of right now, everything has a greenish tint when coming out of those programs.

"A new Final Cut Studio installer with an updated Log & Transfer plugin, this codec and the latest Apple Color REDCODE plugin will be released shortly on our support site."

Has this happened? If not, when?

Rdrushes is pretty much dead. It's a very useful app, which renders footage very quickly based on your system resources, but the resources are being pointed squarely at REDCINE-X now to be the post software for RED.

The SDK with a new version of REDLINE has been released that will eventually support renders from Clipfinder with the New Color Science, but there were some probelms being worked out.

So people who love the Clipfinder workflow (like me) just have to wait a bit until Clipfinder supports the New Color Science.

Many of these problems are QuickTime issues and the way Quicktime Codecs handle GAMMA.
