v3.2.8
(& loving it...)

I think most of the scarlet user wish they could at least get 5k or 5k WS or 4.5 k, 24fps with rc 12:1 or even 18:1 ; it s not the spec of the epic at all but it s only the capacity and the fact of using the full sensor , not only a part of it wich is kind of frustrating -

I haven't shot 5k on my Epic yet. All I do is 4KHD. Why? Because it is the most meaningful format if 1080p is the goal. 99% of all productions shot on the planet are currently 1080p or below. Scarlet is an excellent 1080p camera. I wonder how many of all these Scarlet specs whiners actually shoot big pictures that end up at 4K on the big screen?

This tread has been about the beta, its new features (thank you!) and its quirks and has been a worthwhile resource. Now it's about people who obviously invested into the wrong gadget. Reduser is gaining more and more noise.

+++++++++1 Can we go back to the topic please???

Jarred says:

Phantom Power support is now turned on for most cameras.. There are a few earlier cameras out there that may need to come back for a grounding tweak .

Has someone with deep camera number tested the Phantom Power? Number and mic manufacturer?

(I can't install 3.2.8 at the moment.)

Progress.

Does anybody know if the proposed Epic 1080p 60fps full frame downsampled RGB mode is still on the table sometime, or has it fallen off?

Not sure what you meanly 'deep' camera number - but my Scarlet #208 works fine with phantom power. Running a Røde NTG-3 through a wooden camera A-box.

Shot three days now with the Beta and haven't had any of the problems that others have discussed.

Great to hear that! #208 is "deep" enough...Jarred speaks about "a few", i must test it with my 30.

I'm experiencing an interesting problem with my Scarlet X after doing the firmware force_upgrade. I was shooting 4KHD using a phantom powered mic today. And when I go to play back the footage on the camera some of the clips won't load and I will get an "Unable to load clip" error on the screen. Exiting the playback mode allowed me to hit OK on the warning/error dialog and then I could continue shooting as normal. These clips play fine on my computer. The problem only seems to be related to playback on the camera. Anyone else experience this?

NOTE: I only have a DSMC side handle for control and monitoring is done via a HDMI monitor in 720p mode.

We have EPIC-M #1066 and I can't see phantom power after installing 3.2.8. Never had sound working

Fellas fellas...Epic vs. Scarlet or whatever... just because you own an Epic doesn't make you better than a Scarlet owner because you movie could still look like garbage! if you have the skills set you will be ok with any camera. So don't knock someone that couldn't get a Epic for all of that money because you like Scarlet owners invested what they had to own what they bought.

Scarlet is the underdog because of they way it has taken off with sales so face it we are the new buzz. We don't have to feel lucky or special or owe a company anything that made a product for us to use. It is our job to keep them on their toe to improve their products because it makes them work harder to produce even greater cameras.
If their cameras were garbage we wouldn't be here...we hunger for more and greater options, some of us can't afford the upgrade after we just made this huge purchase.
Rob you should chill with the kiss az attitude because soon your Epic will be out dated also and that's just the way the game goes. if they make a perfect camera that would be the end of RED. They protected 35mm and gave us 16mm and look what happen...someone invented RED. I just want to make great movies with a camera with great options and don't have to buy an epic in one years because my investment can keep me at a certain level.

Man that post was all jacked up..i was typing to fast and didn't proof read but you get the point.

Hahaha...
Epic v Scarket ... That makes me laugh.

The only real difference I see in the is the frame rates.
Shooting in 4k is identical. If your shooting a film and are only shooting @ 24p.. Then you don't even need and epic.

Have fun guys. Life is too short.

Ps . How good is this new build!!

None of what you say has anything do do with making a business investment (NOT just a personal one for the sake of art) and expecting a semi-reasonable financial return to last for a reasonable amount of time. Of course one day the Epic will be superseded, but if my Epic goes out of date too fast then next time I will not buy any camera and just rent like I used to. If everyone does this the camera business will take a nosedive.

For me this is my living - shooting/renting gear. Some of you see this only from the perspective of hobbiests, so of course when you hear the matter discussed as a business you get offended - "NO! It's ART! Go shoot something and post it on Vimeo!" I am not talking about my abilities as a cinematographer when I say I want my Epic to be worth more per rental day, than a camera costing 1/4 the price, just a few months after I bought it. My discussion here has nothing to do with art or talent.

A 34 K investment is not an art thing. How hard is that to grasp!?

Mark, 5K is a different crop of the lens, effectively a larger sensor. It looks different. Seriously man, you can't see that difference? I could care less about resolution and I almost never shoot slomo. But a bigger sensor looks way better, and is a zoom-out from noise and lens imperfections.

Life is too short for what Mark? Too short to expect a reasonable R.O.I. on major kit investments?

This is absolutely ridiculous but I enjoy reading it!

haha dude I'm a director and a cine man..I could care less about renting because i would rather own it. that way I don't have a time line on when I have to shoot or paying out the az for a lens etc. Making movies is an ART! If your in it for the money, that might be your hang up. If you own your equipment you rule your own world baby.

I work for a living and when I take my hard earn and buy a camera I don't jump for joy until I can push that baby to the limits. What hurts is when someone looks at your footage and make a statement you shot that on a...... The love of it is when they have to ask and you say that wasn't a epic.hahaha I love it man so you can waaa until the cows come home ...its not what you spend it's how you spend it. If you bought a camera to rent out just to maket some cash then you are missing the big picture there ROB.

We keep the companies on their toes by wanting them to push the limits. After all if RED wasn't pushing the limits your little Epic wouldn't be able to do the great things that it does. Tell you what.. I'll give you my scarlet for your Epic then I'll school you on how to use it's son. you won't miss the camera because you have the big bucks to buy another one cat daddy.
