  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta Camera Build 3.2.8

It's probably me but I cannot get this upgrade to work. The screen seems to have interference on the left hand side, the histogram freezes then disappears and finally the camera crashes. I have tried upgrading in various ways but to no avail. I have reverted to 3.0.7. The key assignment is not so good but at least the camera seems to work. It is an Epic-X with the Canon (Ti) mount.

Sad but maybe I will have to wait for the next version.

I gave it a whirl as well but just too unstable at this stage - camera just starts up white sometimes, odd playback artefacts, LCD interference of various kinds - but it is great taste of what is to come. It was wonderful having phantom power working for a little while.

Crazy for me to hear all these issues. I installed 3.2.8 no problem first time and all frame-rates and resolutions work fine so far. Except for 5K HD isn't visible for Scarlet, not sure if it's suppose to be??

Phantom power is a godsend!

Also LOVING the display readout when pressing assigned buttons on the side handle, great feature. Keep it coming Red!

I am thrilled with the new build but was really hoping Prerecord would be included. I know there are not a ton of wildlife people using Epics but Prerecord is really, really important to us.

There are more every day - and the BBC Natural History Unit has started buying Epics. I also know of two long term (2 years +) wildlife features that are being shot on Epics - pre-record is something we'd all REALLY appreciate.

I encourage anyone experiencing issues with 3.2.8 to contact support with a description of your problem and to send in a log file from your camera. The log file will still contain data we need even if you've downgraded to another version.

I can't get the REDMote Upgrade utility to install. I tried extracting with Windows native decompression and 7-zip and the result was the same both ways. I get a big red X with a popup saying:

Error opening file for writing
C:\Program Files (x86)\REDmote\linux.inf
Click to abort . . .

This is my first attempt to install it because I just received my REDMote a week ago. For kicks I tried the utility for version 2.0.12, and it did not install either. I'm on Windows 7/64 bit.

I've had that same problem from the very first Redmote Upgrade. Waited until I tried everything before posting to ensure it wasn't something specific to the way my computer(s) are set up. Like you, I get the red x and when I click on ignore for about 5 to 10 files, it seems the installer has succeeded in being installed. But when I go to open it, I find the shortcut in Windows/all programs/accessories and it does not point to the actual installer. I browse C:/programs and look for it and there is no Redmote Utility there.

I had the same problem (same Win7/64bit). I don't have a fix. I just went to another Win7/64bit computer and it installed there. I just haven't trouble shot it yet.

Not much help I know but you are not alone in that problem.

To make sure it wasn't my computer configuration, I restored my factory Windows install on an HP laptop and deleted all the HP attempts to make my life easier and their life richer, via the computer experience. Even on this clean install I got the same results as above. There must be something I need to turn off but as yet I haven't found it. Really hate to spend this much time on a simple upgrade but my Redmotes will not work with the latest camera beta firmware at all, and in fact even tells me to remove it from the camera. (Cheeky firmware!)

If Trent or someone at RED does not post telling us how to get out of this (un)fix, I will keep at it and let you know if I ever figure out what the problem is.

Jarred, please, implement /i lens data critical focus distance (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?69319)
should be simple enough math to do, no?

Also, RedMote firmware update removes Focus Dist [m/f] and displays a number, same for aperture display (no decimal, as in 30 instead of 3.0 and 226 instead of 22.6).
Camera: when my default RC is 8:1 and I change framerate to some crazy slo-mo RC changes (though not in all combinations of project res/RC/sensor frames) by it self (nice!) but does not always reflect that, sometimes shows 8 still. After I record in slo-mo with e.g. RC12:1 (forced) and go into playback and display metadata it shows RC8:1 sometimes, my default setting.

that's what I noticed so far

Where is the actual redcode value not reflected? On the top bar of the camera? On the REDmote? In the meta data in playback (and REDcine X)?

O.K., One problem sol-ved. I am able to install the Redmote Upgrade Utility by choosing to install it into my Windows Library Documents folder instead of the default Windows/Programs x86 folder. Something to do with read only when it comes to the Windows/Programs folders, I suspect.

But, even though I can now open the Upgrade Utility, it still won't Connect to the Redmote. Will try on a different computer and see if that helps.

Thanks, Sid, that did the trick for me. Though not recommended, my everyday account is an administrator account, so I never thought that would be the issue. Gotta love Windows.:-) Thanks, also, to everyone else who replied. Hope this works as well for those having the same issue.

Once the utility was installed, I plugged in the REDmote, it immediately woke up, I launched the utility, hit connect, and, voila, everything proceeded without a hitch. Now have the latest firmware for the REDmote.

Can you go to the device manager and see if "USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget" appears on the "Network adpaters"

Trent, that does indeed appear but with the dreaded yellow exclamation point. Clicking on it says "drivers for this device not installed (code 28)"

I've been able to reproduce the problem, and we are working on a solution. As a temporary fix change the page on the REDmote (press one of the buttons 5-8) and then change back to the main page (button 4).

Will the sensor flip scan be included some time soon? It is always noted on recent builds as 'not implemented' , but it is still noted at least.

Is it me, or does this beta build seem a little more 'beta-ish ' than usual ?

Is there a solution to the camera crash / forced shutdown when pressing record after 3.2.8 "force_upgrade" update method.

Sent my log to support and they said to do the "force_upgrade" update method which I tried many times and it is still crashing all the time when pressing record. Update goes fine (I guess...) since it displays the right firmware version in the system info.

Really wanted to try this 120 fps on something else than water in a glass :)

I'm on Scarlet X

Had the same here, but solved it the following way:

- restore to factory settings
- remove the first profile in the profiles list (red factory)
- reboot

Problem solved here.

Cheers,
Martin

can I ask what profiles you mean and where they can be found ??
