  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

Hello Guys,

I have send e-mails to first five guys from this group buy with information about delivery. Please respond to them when you will have opportunity to do so. In case of lack of confirmation I will try to resend them to you again. I have encountered some spam problems lately.

Received and responded, thanks!

You know everyone will expect an unboxing now

On a separate note, mine is on it's way back to homebase for the V2 upgrades, thanks to Peter and the guys.

Hi Guys,

Here’s a little summary of hardware and software changes in The Beast V2 gimbal. We are also preparing major update in The Beast User Manual so those information will be easy to find there.

Main hardware changes:

Turning OFF gimbal doesn't turn off power for camera shelf and DC OUT
You will have always power on camera shelf when power is connected to DC IN. It is easy to work with RED's now. Thanks for help Michael Kromschroeder and Alex Jentz.

More reliable power readings / Time Left on OLED screen
Completely changed this part of code and some minor things in electronics. This gives us much more reliable power readings and more accurate timing visible on OLED screen.

Less power lost on internal wiring
High-end cables are giving us less heat and power loss, especially with Lemo connectors.

Less heat on electronics and cables
Integrated power solution has been completely redesigned. It gives us almost completely no heating of power module.

Motors are switched off when excessive movement is being made or encoder fault
If gimbal will do too much turns on any axis in short time period, or encoders are getting wrong readings - gimbal will switch motors off to secure cabling and camera. This feature will be fine-tuned in coming software releases, so please check for new version from time to time.

Additional security on DC IN and JST connectors in tubes
We got anti-reverse polarity and over-current security modules for DC IN and JST connectors. So, gimbal with accessories is secured no matter what will happen with cables or connectors outside.

Main software changes:

Factory/Settings Defaults restore
Right now we got two different options for factory and settings recall: Settings Defaults is clearing all stored profiles and overwrites those with factory setup, Factory Defaults completely wipes memory and recalls factory memory state. Memory and settings files are stored on internal memory card and shouldn't be exchanged with other users as are compatible only with one gimbal.

Autotrimming
With this option you may setup new neutral position for remote control radio and Thumbstick. Use if you see drift when connecting radios or Thumbsticks. This option is located in Control > Advanced > Autotrimming

Thumbstick on/off
You have got option to switch Thumbstick autodetection on and off in Control > Advanced > Thumbstick. After switching it on please restart gimbal if Thumbstick will not give results on one of axis.

Follow > Behaviour
This option gives you three different profiles/algorithms in Follow Mode. Medium means that old Follow Mode algo will be used, Responsive makes more robotic, faster movement with less overshooting. Smooth makes extremely smooth and relaxed movement. You SHOULD still tune Follow Mode general behaviour with Follow Speed, Follow Expo and Follow Deadband - as desired. Follow Behaviour changes general type of movement recreated from handheld.

Autotune checks balancing
During Autotune start it is checking balancing. If balancing will be completely wrong it won't continue - you will get dialog 'Wrong Offset'. If it will be not perfect, but probably good enough to start Autotune - you will still get this dialog but with option to start Autotune. If algorithm will detect proper balancing it will just start autotuning.
IMPORTANT: balance check is getting good results with ROLL and TILT, but PAN is just simple checked - please remember to do proper balancing of this axis!

Improved Autotune algorithm
Works with small and large batteries, in most cases gives good results with most setups. Sometimes you may need to fine tune some axis. It doesn't set up Filter option under Performance! This setting need to be set manually.

New Filter in Performance
Different data are being proccessed and resolution is much greater. It should be lower with lighter setups (such as Canon 5D) and higher with heavier setups (fully rigged RED). Usually you should work with 5-30 range.

A lot of smaller and invisible changes
Starting from new code for OLED screen, ending up with silent speaker. Sum of all changes is greater than 1000. Our team spent countless hours on implementation!

Hello Guys,

new manual is still work in progress - there are some changes in editing of those and a lot of additional information we will put there. We are removing all information about ACR application will be in separate manual for example. I will tell you more when I will receive more information about that. Until that please use old manual and tutorial videos - most of needed information are there and in case of any doubts and/or questions please contact our support.

There is another thing I would like to explain. I was asked about fees that one of group buy users was asked by Custom Office to pay and he was surprised by that as he was thinking he has paid everything already.

It is normal procedure - custom rates and taxes vary from country to country and when you are making purchase in another country you need to pay taxes when importing them to your country.

As example, I can give you Polish rates - 3,3% Tax and 23% VAT - those I would pay in case of making purchase of gimbal abroad and importing it to Poland.

So yes, everything has been paid of, except of Taxes - those you always need to pay in your own country.

Piotr,
What is the pin configuration of the DC Out of the beast? Is it the same as Red's two pin lemo? I've been burned before with the Paralinx two pin which is wired for Arri.

The Beast has landed. I was going to take a picture of the UPS truck then say something like "I've been waiting over 2 years for that truck" but it was night by the time he arrived so scrapped that.

FUN FACT: I've had 3 kids since this Group Buy started.

I'm going to wait a day or two before unboxing and test but so far, looks well packed in that Pelican case. Needless to say, feeling pretty good. Now it just needs to work and I'll be ecstatic.

Taxes and fees came up to CAD $310, which is what I was expecting. The Graupner remote came in a second box.

I could have not survived that Group Buy without your humour and good mood!
