  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

GO BESTEADY!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

Okay, so here are my results for my test today:

I spent 5 hours trying to get it working properly.

I cannot make any definite conclusions since BeSteady is not available to Skype with me being that it is after hours in Poland. I have requested a Skype meeting with Mike and expect to be able to get some help from him tomorrow because at this point I can't be positive if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's the BeSteady.

The trouble I'm having is as follows:

1. When I use "autotune", the camera tilts and rolls, but does not pan... just like before.

2. When "autotune" is complete, and I set the camera to "follow mode", I pick it up and walk around and get intense vibrations when panning, tilting and rolling. When I check the values under the "performance" settings to see what "autotune" has set them at, they read: Tilt: 100% Roll: 100% Pan: 90%

3. I tried manually lowering the pan/roll/tilt strength in the "performance" settings to different values all the way down to 40% on every axis. This does remove some of the vibration, but not completely. It is not silky smooth at any value.

4. The camera does pan when in follow mode, unlike the first time I got the unit, but it vibrates. Before, it would not pan at all in follow mode.

5. When the gimbal is powered off, and it's totally limp, if I manually pan, tilt or roll the camera, I can feel some friction at each motor... I could be wrong, but I 'm pretty sure this was silky smooth when I tested the first unit they sent to me.

So that is the extent of my testing for today. I have to contact BeSteady via Skype tomorrow to find out what is going on.

To be continued...

mine works fine with power at about 25 (edit: as you have figured out)

Peter / BeSteady:

Can you update everyone who has returned a unit for repairs? Now that Carey's unit is returned and working, we are hopeful but the rest of us need to know status on our units.

- Why are units still stuck in DHL after 2 months?
- Is there a fee that you need to pay to receive the unit? If so how much? ** Don't be afraid to ask for reasonable help at this point **
- Give us a real timeline for getting them released, making the repairs and return shipping.

Most of all just respond - communicate with us via Skype, email or the forum.

BeSteady: Is there something we can do to help get the units out of DHL?
Pay a reasonable fee?
Please let us know, thanks.

Hello Guys and Happy New Year,

thank you for your offer but we have handled the DHL situation already. Your units should be in our hands in matter of days now.

We are doing all we can to resume the production after holidays. We are waiting for some parts that were ordered - holidays in Poland were extremlaly long in this year - from 23.12 til 06.01 - so most companies weren't fully working during that time and it caused some problems as you can image.

and please update shipping schedule..
I will post updated shipping schedule when I will have precise information.

Best
Peter

I did a new BeSteady 4 modification today:

Connected the tray power cable directly to the power input socket.
Now the tray (Camera) gets the power and voltage directly of the connected battery and not from the BeSteady power regulator.

The red and black cables on the lower right end of the vertical arm are now extended and connected to the input of the main board just below the 3 round silver and blue components

The whole setup, RED EPIC-, Teradek Bolt 2000 and BeSteady 4 draw about 5 Amps at 14.6 Volts
So a 90 Wh V-mount battery lasts about 70 minutes.

NOW I am ready for a quick and dirty test; I will post a clip in a minute......

Michael,

is there a reason for your mod? Is there a specific advantage we should be swear of?

thanks.
