  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

I'd just friendly suggest that you respect that we support each others decisions and that what one do the others agree on.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I asked a simple question, now I fell like I'm being threatened. It's ok you need not respond, I'll walk away now. It's not worth being band over this.

Thanks

I totally understand why some users would prefer to keep a discussion open on RedUser but I also get the moderator's position - With a thread so focused on the group buy it's not much of a resource for the rest of the community. Which is surely what this forum should be about.

What I would suggest is that we look into becoming a sponsor on RU so BeSteady Four users have an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with each other (good and bad). In the meantime we should migrate the discussion about the group buy over to our own forum. For those of you worried about accountability we would be happy to have everything we agreed 'stuck' to the thread and send an e-mail across to everyone who has participated, so you'll have that on record. We want to work with you guys to provide the best resource and support.

How does that sound?

Sounds great, glad you're back on board Pro!

Michael great find on the Cinema Oxide bracket. Since you are one of the few with a BS4, do you know if the clamps fit the BS4? Is the diameter of the carbon fiber tube on the BS4 the same as the Movi products.

Thanks
David

I'm working on a much simpler and cheaper solution. All that's needed is a small riser plate to attach to the bottom of the existing BS4 stand. I don't really want to spend another $300 on another stand when we already have a stand. That's unnecessary and redundant.

An excerpt directly from the BS4 user manual: "the central part of the stand
features various holes and threads which allow it to be used with third-party camera
support equipment such as sleds, tripods, cranes, etc."

I feel it is BeSteady's responsibility to offer a riser plate with the stand since it currently does not work with a tripod without rubbing against it and possibly causing damage. It's not a high priority, but it would be a simple accessory they could create very quickly.

Can you guys create this riser plate Maks, and offer it in your store?

Well I don't quite meet your opinion, the BS4 stand does not provide the stability I want to have for a RED Epic setup with accessories.

I was thinking the exact opposite Michael. I like their design where the carbon rods slide directly into the ends of the handles. Once you have that stand mounted on a good set of sticks, your rig would be as rock solid as it would be if your camera were mounted directly to the sticks. You could even use it for static shots better.

The stand you're getting just allows the gimbal to rest on two hooks. That can't possible be more stabile, can it?

Yes it can. It is all about "lever arm of a force" and the weight of the rig

Hey guys !

Well, in the meantime the "thread" issue is solved:

I want to share my opinion (as we have a BS4 in our hands) about the Step by Step process. I think we can complete a proper and more complete user manual if we put here (or elsewhere) the info everybody have. Me English is not good, I know. Really doing my best, lot of work in the rental house every day force me to do this at night.

1. Battery (s) & Charger.
Charging Small (2) batts will take from 2:45 to 3:30 hours. (first and second)
Charging Big (2) batts. Fist : 2:15 hours. Second : 6 hours !!

Seems like balancing batts it not a easy procedure for the charger. I don't know if first charge will take more than other ones.

Other comments; (If links are not allowed, please remove it or tell me and I will)

A) I know there is some special envelope to keep Lipo batts safer. Good ida for transport also.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/..._Silicone_Fiberglass_Bag_120_x_65_x_55mm.html

B) Maybe is a good idea to buy a Lipo battery voltage tester (in order to never let the voltage decrease to minimum advised)
https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking...2_8S_Cell_Checker_with_Low_Voltage_Alarm.html
Maybe BS4 can tell us this info, not in my experience, short by the way.

C) Maybe a Lipo safety charge box (regarding the possible fire when charging without supervision)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24647__Turnigy_Lipo_Bunker_Lipoly_Safety_Charge_Box.html

D) Seriously we need to have another charger, a better one if possible. Surely we can find in a special store a spare one, PLAN B needed here. All the gimbal depends on that charger.

2. Updating firmware.
Once you receive the e-mail from BS support, the job is easy and quick.
You can do the upgrade in a few minutes, no problems at all IMO.

3. Stand
In our opinion problem is: once you load the gimbal with an Epic + battery Vmount Plate + Vmount batt + Lens, the weight is heavy.
Stand seems to hold the weight with no problem but when you try to pull the gimbal out, it's impossible to do it as the carbon sticks from the stand will want to follow the gimbal (the stress on the connection between the parts make very difficult to disconnect them).

One extra assistant needed to hold on with both hands the 2 sticks to prevent that. Y guess the Michael proposal from Oxide is better, the hooks are more practical. Also I agree with Carey: buying extras is not the idea. Maybe BS team can make a hooks to attach or explain to us what we are doing wrong.

Attaching Stand to tripod plate: protuberances will not allow that without an extra special plate.
Attaching Stand to lighting tripod is more easy, is what we use, no problem.

4. Connecting camera to BS4 camera plate
1. Provides screws (1/4 and 3/8) will feet but if they where thinner (head thickness) that will be best.
2. camera plate is very hard to connect to BS4 frame once is attached to camera and the weight is heavy... really difficult to insert. I thing we will attach another camera plate, with quick release system... Was hopping better system. We pass really hard time (1.5 hours to achieve that). A pain in the XXXX

5. Balancing camera
1. Ours configurations are heavy. Epic + accs + bats + pro Lenses = HEAVY. On the user manual provided is hard to find the proper place and tool less adjustments are good but difficult to use properly when full camera kit is on the frame.

2. We really need a series of videos (PLEASE with Epic camera as model) to know the proper place the camera needs to be. Reading on the manual it says :NOTE: Extremely heavy setups may not be fully balancable on pan axis & roll axis Makes really hard (for us) to know if we are doing things right. We can't achieve the target for sure, we are guessing all time. That's why we need videos. Please.

Once camera "seems" to be balanced (we can't know for sure) is time to:

6. Powering the gimbal with the ON-OFF dedicated button
When you power it a female voice will talk to you telling what's happening. First time gimbal start to jitter and you have to hold the stand because it seems like he gonna walk all over the table. Star with pan calibration (I guess) and is stops... No more calibration. 4 minutes and nothing.
Navigating the MENU you arrive to AUTOTUNE, press it. Female voice starts talking: Pan axis calibration, Tilt axis... Roll axis... calibration. 2 minutes.
In our case: Gimbal start to JITTER lilke crazy.

We couldn't go further. We have to turn OFF the gimbal as we was afraid something is really wrong.

Causes ?? :

1. Bad balance (we can't know)
2. Bad firmware
3. Bad electronics, faulty unit
4. Who knows...

Can u guys, who achieved to make the BEAST work, complete this post with your experience ?
That will be very useful for us all.

I already wrote to BS team to tell the same on this post. But we all know we can help each other too, maybe faster that any others.
Thanks !

PS: This info is ONLY my experience with the BEAST, no more, no less.

Here my thoughts:

1. Battery (s) & Charger.
I am modifying my BS4 to Lemo input and output and will use LiPo 4S 8.000 mAh. The recharge in 20 minutes, are about 700 g light.
And with the Lemo I am able to use any 12 to 15 Volt power source used in our business.

2. Updating firmware.
yes is very easy

3. Stand
same experience here, I drilled tow holes in the bottom of the stand and put two screws to tighten the rods into the fitting.
That fixes the problem with the rods coming out while lifting the gimbal, but then the plastic nobs at the end of the rods come of.
And wehen using the inverted mode (camera on top of the gimbal) the whole stand is not very stable any more and I don't trust it any more. I think the glued fittings are going to brake and the whole gimbal with camera are going to drop. Thats why I went a different way with my solution.

4. Connecting camera to BS4 camera plate
I attached the RED mini quick release to the camera plate, the problem is, that the camera is then to tall to get properly in balance.^

5. Balancing camera
I got he balance quite good. I will make a video of my balancing and setup as soon I get my gimbal back here in Munich.
Without follow mode the gimbal stabilizes very very good.

7. Hard Case
Is very nice build and cut out, the only problem I experienced ist when I got the best balancing wit the EPIC and a V-mount battery I needed to almost adjust the position of the pan motor to the end of the top rods, but with this position the gimbal does not fit in the case any more :-( So getting a optimal balance, taking off the camera and leaving the gimbal adjusted in the best balance setup and putting it in the case is not possible!

Michael, is here anymore details about the battery make and model and charger make and model you can share?

Thanks

+1

Piotr, please respond to my emails from this week...thank you.

Dario,
I disagree, I for one would rather have our interaction with Besteady here in the open. There is a lot of accountability when these discussions are in the open and not locked away on a forum where scrutinization from outside parties is limited.

I say say leave it here this is a Reduser Group Buy.

Thanks.

Hi Gunleik,

Thank you kindly for your input...it's sincerely appreciated.

I think the answer posted earlier by another RU is quite logical and also speaks to why this GB's members have all been mystified or upset by the deletion of the original thread...

This Group Buy originated *here*, is comprised of only RED owning users, and has been particularly troublesome as you know.

That said, keeping this information and dialgoue public, *on a board BeSteady does not control*, is really the only leverage we GB members have towards keeping BeSteady honest and responsive...something they've not been particularly good about in the past. I personally felt like the deletion of the old thread was a kindness to BS (as well as the uninvolved community lol) but not one that was earned or deserved yet. Deleting it helped them and in some small ways I think hurt your users who participated in the GB.

While it's my greatest hope they will sort out these last couple issues so close to the finish line, I would be much more comfortable if the old thread was restored (locked) and this one was left intact if possible until every GB member has their gimbals (and accessories) in hand.

Of course I totally understand how unpleasant it's been for the rest of this great community to witness and suffer through the past year of the previous threads posts (doubly so for us GB members I assure you) and further completely agree that things must be kept positive and constructive. I just hope you and the other Mods will have some compassion for it's members who are inexorably invested in this GB...at least through it's imminent completion.

Thank you very much for your input and consideration.

BeSteady is free to become a RU sponsor and have the information needed.

I have had the argument offlist that:
As there is allready an open discussion on this on the besteady forum, why is this thread still alive :)

It is an interesting argument.

A great and very welcome idea Pro...thank you for looking after us.
