  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

So, can we recover the "lost" info and posts? ... worried. This is crazy.

No! This is what was left on my server before I cleaned it. Now I wish I hadn't cleaned anything.

Yes! very crazy and disappointing and a bit gut wrenching to say the least.

I have all the posts going back to novemeber 2013....have gotten an email every day from reduser with updates to the thread. They should all be there anyway :) if anything comes up I can find info and post them

Ryan, thanks !! It will be great if you can upload to dropbox (or similar) to share with us. I think we must all have this info (in case something goes to the wrong way). Hope not, but we need to be covered IMO

Let Carey know earlier today that as insurance, I had captured every page of posts up to #2135 as PDF's (up to 10/02).

It's there if we need it. Let's hope that we don't. The point that they are getting a fresh start - timed with the release of the first units - can work to everyone's benefit.

Dario, I'll do that tomorrow morning. Today Peter was absent / sick leave / stomach problems. He should be tomorrow morning in office.

I guess you can always search for the thread in google and find the cached version and copy every single page into a document.

Already looked at that - not all pages are there. basically Google caches them at certain times, so, if was a busy day and Google cached early, the next day's Google cache wouldn't catch all the previous entries, as the current page could be 3 pages on.

Rion I hope that is the case. We are all so close to this GB and I believe none of us want it to fail. We want a wonderful great working product. It has been much like birthing a baby, slow with a lot of ups and downs in the process. The timing by which the entire thread disappears is most odd. Just makes you wonder. Hats off to the persons that have saved some or most of the pages.

David

Maks,.

Have read through the manual a few times -nice job overall. I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a living and breathing document with user tips as experienced operators provide feedback.

I do have a first set of questions - starting with power:

Quoting from Page 8 of the manual:
Before you start: Remember about the thresholds of the power output on both auxiliary Power Plug and the BeSteady Four camera tray and the DC Out Socket. Both power exits are part of the same circuit and the summarized power output cannot exceed
3A when using the small BeSteady batteries
5A when using the large BeSteady battery

Question 1:

This paragraph makes reference to an "Auxiliary Power Plug" yet I see no other reference to this plug in the documentation. The reference to the Besteady Four camera tray would suggest this is the location but I don't see anything in the photos… Perhaps I missed it somewhere.

Question 2:

Peter had mentioned once upon a time that the small batteries would not work with our RED cameras but the large batteries would be able to carry the load.
Made perfect sense - but if the total power available is limited to 5A via the large battery, it would appear we would need a second power source to run outfitted EPIC rigs. True?

RED EPIC-M 5K 24fps = about 60W (I think Jarred mentioned the Dragon was more effective)
60 Watts at 12 Volts = 5 Amps - which is the listed capacity of the summarized circuit. I hope I am making a math error (not my strong suit) or perhaps outdated info on the camera power requirements - please correct me!

Now add to the load:
Wireless video transmit (Teradek or Paralink) + about 4-7W
LCD monitor + about 4-5W
Wireless FF motor + ?

My concern is that anything we add would exceed the capacity of the circuit.

Associated Suggestion / Question: If my concern is valid, is there is any way that a power tap could be retrofitted to the "Small Batteries" so they could be used as a secondary power source for aks while the 5A feeds the camera?

Question 3:

Will the addition of the remote control receiver tap into the same circuitry and current availability?

Question 4:

Are both the "Power In" and "Power Out" making use of the same connectors?
If so, I would suspect that a number of units will be accidentally burned due to inexperienced rental users - voiding the warranty.
Hope there is a failsafe - just like most every power connector is keyed M & F to prevent disasters.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Initial impressions:

First of all, I want to give credit where credit is due.

Maks and team, you have done a magnificent job in creating a stunning piece of gear with the BeSteady FOUR. The craftsmanship is exquisite. It is clear that you have put thousands and thousands of hours of blood, sweat and tears into this technological marvel. I applaud your incredible attention to detail, form and function. It is most certainly a top-notch device - from the high-quality materials used, to the gorgeous aesthetics, to the comfortable feel of it in your hands, to the user-friendly tool-less adjustments, to the hidden cabling, to the onboard OLED controls, to the thumbstick, to the custom Peli case to the packaging of every accessory and overall presentation of the entire unit - it is unquestionably all extremely professional and on-par with the MōVI M15.

I am not ready to give my thoughts on how well it functions in comparison with the M15... that will take me about a week of intense testing. But my initial impressions are that you have succeeded in creating your very own work of art.

I LOVE IT.

And for everyone who suffered through this long and arduous process, believe me, you will be rewarded handsomely once you get your hands on this modern marvel.

More to come...

Dario, I'll do that tomorrow morning. Today Peter was absent / sick leave / stomach problems. He should be tomorrow morning in office.

Maks, please update the list, we need to know our position in line and we need to be sure you have all our correct information as it wasn't the case this summer.
I know that Peter is sick but when he will be healthy and back at the office he should send an email to every user involved in the GB to inform us ouf our current situation/position, check our shipping and payment infos and let us know the options we have.

Carey, stoked you finally received your unit, this was a goat roller coaster for all of us but even more for you.
Can't wait for your review!
As the old thread disappeared I hope we will still have you and David on our side to solve our problems with this GB and put an end on all unfinished business with BeSteady.
Thanks again for your time, hard work and patience.

M12 Carey? I'm only aware of M10 & M15. Not trying to nitpick but weight capacity vs unit weight vs performance vs ease of setup = does it compare to M15 or not, and do we keep it or not. Thank you for your initial report...I had little doubt it would be well engineered mechanically and look forward to your shooting evaluation.

Thank you,

Vincent - I'll be here until every last Reduser gets their unit, and beyond. I'm married to BeSteady and this GB, for better or worse.

PC - Yes, the M15 is what I meant. I'll be testing all day today and will have more info regarding the BS4 and it's abilities. I plan to share my discoveries as I make them. So far, ease of use seems to be equal, but I'm not ready to say for sure just yet.
