What is the best connection to edit off an external RAID?

An eSATA port? Aren't those are limited to 300MB/s right? So that limits what you get out of some of the bigger RAIDS with faster RAID cards... correct?
However that is plenty for RC36, correct? Any practical limitations?

How about an internal RAID card that you could also use for an internal RAID to use as a scratch disk? Are there any decent cards that would allow you to have both a big internal RAID set up like say seven 1.5TB 7200.10 drives in a RAID-5 with good numbers, and at the same let you hook up your external RAID and give you more than eSATA would?

A dedicated card?

Fibre something or other? Ethernet cables? Smoke signals? What are the faster connections?
