Best way to mount a third party monitor on the Epic (Small HD DP6)?

Hi,
What would be a good way to mount a third party monitor like a Small HD DP6 to the Epic? I don't really like articulating arms, I am thinking about the following, would it work?
RED ACCESSORY ATTACHMENT BRACKET
+ RED Rosette block.

Is it possible to attach the Rosette block directly on top of the EPIC? Or a Top Plate would be needed?

Thanks!

Totally agreed with Scott. I just rigged my Epic up with the Zacuto quick release system and love it. Although I didn't actually buy a Z-American, I did stick a Zud on the end of a Red Arm to achieve the same effect. My full post is here:

Alexandre, can I ask why you do not want to use an articulating arm (such as a Noga, Red Arm, israeli Arm or Z-American)? They do work well when the monitor is light enough (and does not require the constant prodding that the Red Touch LCD must endure).

Hi Alex, I already have the Strong Arm from Small HD and I find it difficult to use, it's never enough tight and finish to move by itself in the middle of a shot if the camera is moving, shoulder mount. The Small HD itself is lightweight but when you add the Small HD battery, it add weight. I was thinking that a rosette system like the one from RED would be more sturdy, I would be able to lock it into place and it wouldn't move anymore...

I advise against the strong arm from SmallHD. Mine failed after a few uses. It doesn't tighten all the way anymore, they refunded me for it which is nice. Great company, great monitors, but the arm is no good IMO. Get a real Noga arm.

I placed the Small HD DP6, the sun hood and the battery on a balance and it weights 714 grams total. I don't know, even with a better arm, the problem that remains is that the arm uses only one mounting point on the camera, so with 0,7KG, physics make it hard to stay in place. Maybe 2 x RED ACCESSORY ATTACHMENT BRACKET, cost 400$, and you can place it at eye level for shoulder mount operation. Maybe add a dog bone in-between and it add more flexibility.

I have to admit, I use the SmallHD 9", AND I use the Tekkeon MP3450 battery velcro'd tot he back of the SHD.... All of this hanging (sometimes, literally hanging upside down) from the Z-American.... You could ALMOST use the Zacuto arm as a carry handle. I swear by it.

3 people who have used my Zacuto have since spent the $400 os so and ordered from either Abel where i got mine or elsewhere it is so good.

Once you crank the t-lock down, it stays, it really does. the trick though is to hold/cradle the monitorwhere you want it letting the arm float when you crank dwon the arm. Less stress on your monitor mount (Zicro) and makes for a better overall long lasting product.

Wow. Wish I knew that about the smallHD strong arm. I bought one with a DP6 bundle last night :(

Anyway I wouldn't write off articulating arms altogether. They exist for a reason, and some are very good.

Look into these Ultralight arms. I keep hearing that they are very strong.

If you need something that can also double as a carry handle...

Just wondering, can the O grip attach to a 1/4 20 mounting point?

I was asked this in another thread (no pun intended). Adapting 3/8" down to 1/4" is easy enough in practice, but the 1/4" thread connection becomes the weak link in the whole exercise. A single 1/4" is not strong enough to be used as a carrying handle point.

If the utility plate manufacturers would come out with little bridge-like 3/8" adapters that would screw into two of their 1/4" threads, that would be the ticket.
