So I've read thru all of the threads of everyone discussing about different v-mount solutions and the common gripe is that the smart top handle is in the way of mounting a v-mount battery on the back for most v-mount batteries. For my workflow the WC easy top seems to be making the most sense at the moment as I'll be able to flip the handle around and just use my old battery plate that I already had for dragon with a new WC quickback for the weapon costing a total of around 900 bucks to use my v-mount batteries as soon as the weapon is finished and delivered to me in the next week or two. Does anyone else out there agree/disagree and have a better solution out there? I like the reduced form factor the red v-mount base expander will provide, but it won't be here for awhile when I need it most out of the gate.

I am struggling with the same thing. As of now I plan on starting with the Base I/O expander, then running power to vmount with this

OR just use my switronix jetpack untill i can either get a vmount from element technica or something similar

Its a bit different for you if you are upgrading as they don't give to option for V-Lock expander. I am in Que for both Base I/O AND V-lock and will take which ever is available when My Scarlet-W is ready

Wish Red would make the vlock with IO an option for upgrades, but I'm planning to go the WC route as well. I don't really care about having start/stop on my top handle, so not sure I will bother with the top plate.

I've heard of people suffering from battery percentages showing up incorrectly from the ET V-mount. Hopefully this is just a bug that can be fixed. I've been weighing the pros/cons of going with the ET or forking out the dough and waiting for the red v-mount base expander since it does effectively shave off a bit from the back of the red, which helps give more space towards the back when working on gimbals.

thats why the cord i mentioned above gets me powered while i wait for new developments, and make my permanent solution after the mad scramble for new cameras settles down

Sent my cam with ET V-Mount to Red for updating Plate and Cam so that I may use my batteries.
Latest firmware didnt work. So I think in the next firmware it will be working.

Regards

i just tried using my old gear and it did not fit...what battery plate and quick back do you speak of?

The V-mount battery plate with lemo should carry over, but you'll need a different quickback to mount on the back of the weapon to mount the v-mount battery plate.

Kit:
Element technica vmount module
DSMC2 Base expander
Red V-Mount Batteries

With the handle DSMC2 you cannot mount the vmount battery, because of the height of the battery.

This is with the monitor DSMC2 Monitor which plugs to the body directly.

Other than no handle kit works great.
