I started distributing QT files for the web and am getting too many 'I don't have QT installed!' complaints. Retorts about QT went unanswered. So, I need to distribute my stuff in a Windows compliant format.

So, how does this pertain to Red? Well I can't bring myself to go the YouTube flash route, so I think I need to suck it up and make it a windows media file. I figure everyone has either QT or Windows Media.

Hence, does anyone know of a good tool, preferably that runs on a Mac, that can take in a QT and spit out a comparable windows media file? When I did this before, I would export QT from my mac, haul it over to my PC, export to AVI and then pull it through the Microsoft encoder, it was a giant pain. Hopefully there's a much better route.

Use QuickTime Player and "export for web". There's a good chance that movies exported to H.264 in REDAlert, REDLine or REDrender will also work. You may have to change the file extension to ".mp4".

Cheers
Hans

P.S: I have tried to verify the above, but could not find a windows system without QuickTime installed in my household. Sorry...

Check out flip4mac

It is a plugin for Quicktime, so it adds Windows media to your export options in QT, and works quite fast.

Why not try Flash Video, it's probably the only plugin everyone has to get.
