  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best Stand-Alone CF Harddrive for the field?

features..fine.

features..fine.

Thanks Donatello...okay. So, feature film production should be fine.

8 min isn't that bad at all...but for your Run-n-Gun...yes, I see why U would fly through the cards.

Would you recommend the Nexto or the HypeD? It seems you would recomment the Nexto?

Thanks for the info and the quick post.

Cool...

Hehe... if you want to sell your 8 GB CF cards, let me know. They are still useful to me for DSLR timelapse stuff.

When are those 16GB Red cards shipping? If we put an order in now, how soon could we get them?

i have not use the 2700 so i do not know if the verify process is still 2 step or if it can be set it up to copy & verify in the settings/preferences ??

I just received the Nexto 2700 today. You can enable auto verify, which makes it a single button press. This feature is off by default. It has two options, S and F. Not exactly sure what they mean since they are not listed in the manual. Could be "slow" and "fast" or "Short" and "full". :)

"It has two options, S and F."

based on the 2500 series = S is short verify ( checks only 1st X percent of each file ) and F should be FULL verify ... i recommend FULL - when i 1st got mine i used S and on one TAKE the short verify said it was GOOD .. however when i got it back home there were errors .. i still had the CF card and again put it in the nexto and it said it was GOOD - i then changed to FULL verify and then it picked up ERRORS ...since then FULL is the way of life here ...

The newer Nextos can do a copy/verify by simply inserting the cf card in the Nexto....no clicks!

The hyperdrive colorspace is great.
you can swap out the drives.
320GB isn't necessary.
something's wrong if you've relying on several day's work sitting on this unit.
The device lets you dump off of the CF card, with one or two button pushes, without even leaving the camera. works with Red 8GB cards, not sure about anything bigger. check their site for firmware upgrades for this.

I actually picked up a Colorspace based on Mark's recommend, and have been completely satisfied, HD upgradeable, battery lasts a long time and the fact that it hasn't failed me yet out in the middle of nowhere...two thumbs up!

I picked up the Colorspace Hyperdrive last week and I love it!

I got the BW screen 160gb version. I got the smaller screen one for a few reasons.

1) Better battery performance
2) Metal case
3) More durable buttons
3.5) comes with a car charger
4) cheaper and I just don't need the fancy screen

TIPS!

Use the "ULTRA" transfer speed on the RED or Lexar cards

You can set it up to automagically boot up and copy upon the insertion of a card NO CLICKS!

Use the Quick verification for 1 of every 32bits of data. (more than plenty thats like a LOT ob verification per frame of R3D)

Mike,

what model are you referring to? does it work with the 16 gig CF's?
